Comment Re:Christian Theocracy (Score 1) 1168

Do you believe that business owner should have the legal ability to refuse service to a black/hispanic/asian person, or a woman?

If not, what is it about homosexuality (an immutable characteristic) that is different than race or gender?

If so, why are you an bigot?

The difference in racial bigotry & homosexual bigotry is the former is forbidden by a matter of law, something the later does not enjoy. Just as importantly, these laws are a knee jerk reaction to gay marriage proponents trying to force their beliefs on those who want no part of it. What did people think was going to happen when they sued a bunch of private businesses that refused to cater to gay weddings? And given the Hobby Lobby SCotUS win along similar grounds, I'd be willing to bet that these laws will stand judicial review for the same reasons.

Here's the thing, we do not have a right to not be discriminated against. We are all allowed to walk down the street & cross it if we encounter someone who outwardly portrays something we don't like, be it his/her race or the way he/she walks & dresses. When you walk into a store the salesman is allowed to treat you as courteously or as mean as he feels like, even if it's because you walked in with your same sex partner, to the point of refusing to sell something to you.

Businesses have the right to refuse service. Is it discrimination if the bank refuses to give a loan to someone who walks in wearing smelly rags pushing a shopping cart? Or what about clubs that only let "fit" men/women in? Can your John Candy & Chris Farley's sue for discrimination?

If I don't like you, then I should have the ability to no associate or do business with you, for any reason I see fit. The only exception to that is if I'm providing a service & my dislike for you is due to you belonging to a protected class(race, sex, religious beliefs, disabilities, or national origin). Notice what's missing? It's what I said at the beginning, sexual preference is not a protected class.

The real competition (in features, that is, not price) for an Apple tablet would be the Panasonic Toughpad 4k, a monster 20-inch tablet with 3840x2560 resolution (that is, 4:3 aspect ratio). It's a beautiful piece of kit but hugely expensive. Apple could put the same panel in a 20 inch "iPad Pro" or "MacPad" and if priced more keenly it could sell well among those doing graphics work who want something more portable than a desktop.

There is no gag order, but regular operating practices. They won't release the full order until every commissioner has submitted their edits. Much like how the Supreme Court won't issue a ruling until all of the justices have submitted their opinion. The issue here is that the GOP commissioners are being dicks & not submitting their dissent. And what has happened is the GOP talking heads have picked up on the fact that the full order hasn't been released & are calling foul over something their own people are causing.
It's shit like this that's causing me to become more liberal & hate the GOP.

Submission + - Windows 93 Is Real, And It's Spectacular

rossgneumann writes: It’s 2015, but Windows 93 is finally ready. Your new favorite operating system is here and it’s weird as hell. The browser-based OS makes us thirst for what could’ve been if Microsoft didn’t skip between Windows 3.X and Windows 95. The fully clickable “OS” greets users with the Playstation 1 bootup sound signaling they’re about the trip into an alternate universe. The first version of Windows 93 went up in October, but its creator posted on Reddit last night that it’s finally complete.

Khronos Group Announces Vulkan To Compete Against DirectX 12 91

Phopojijo writes The Khronos Group has announced the Vulkan API for compute and graphics. Its goal is to compete against DirectX 12. It has some interesting features, such as queuing to multiple GPUs and an LLVM-based bytecode for its shading language to remove the need for a compiler from the graphics drivers. Also, the API allows graphics card vendors to support Vulkan with drivers back to Windows XP "and beyond."

Inside the North Korean Data Smuggling Movement 62

Sparrowvsrevolution writes A new Wired magazine story goes inside the North Korean rebel movement seeking to overthrow Kim Jong-un by smuggling USB drives into the country packed with foreign television and movies. As the story describes, one group has stashed USB drives in Chinese cargo trucks. Another has passed them over from tourist boats that meet with fishermen mid-river. Others arrange USB handoffs at the Chinese border in the middle of the night with walkie talkies, laser pointers, and bountiful bribes. Even Kim assassination comedy The Interview, which the North Korean government allegedly hacked Sony to prevent from being released, has made it into the country: Chinese traders' trucks carried 20 copies of the film across the border the day after Christmas, just two days after its online release.

You're right that Dell laptops are relatively easy to modify and upgrade - for a laptop. But still you can't expect to transplant a motherboard into any but the most closely related model. I upgraded my old M90 to an M6300 by replacing the motherboard, CPU and memory. For the M6400, I believe that the motherboard and case from the M6500 should be compatible (provided you change the CPU and CPU heatsink) but I cannot be entirely sure. The newer 17 inch Dell models have 1920x1080 screens instead of 1920x1200. You couldn't jam the older screen into them because it is physically a different size, even if the connector turns out to be the same.
