Statistically women excel at intuition and non-linear thinking which can be much more useful is say theoretical physics that high spatial ability. Guys don't perform well when there testosterone is low either.

Women are just as brilliant as men in about the same percentage. And to advance sate of the art in many fields of science does in fact require brilliance. I don't know if the sexism or ignorance is more offensive.

I am the prime author of CRM114 (the spam filter) and IT DEFINITELY GOT CHECKED BY SMART PEOPLE. There were at least a dozen people who would dependably read the code, and they'd find the pickiest things (luckily, not anything serious; thank you Valgrind!)

So, it's absolutely, demonstrably, provably (read the mail archive!) the case that at least SOME mail-oriented open source gets the all-orifices examination, and that examination is effective.

Whether or not security software gets the same thing, I can't say for sure, but I'd be surprised that it didn't. The recent set of security vulnerabilities only shows that old code didn't get the same care as newer code.

Driverless allows high efficiency very small people movers. Buses are per person mile very inefficient in energy use, pollution and especially convenience. They are only efficient in the first two when full to capacity which they are only during major commute rushes. The future of self-driving vehicles is highly flexible, electric powered, on demand minimal vehicles for the job. Anything else is nonsense.

As quoted above, science is a shoulders-of-giants scheme, and I'm glad to see that the most-cited papers are not about the results of science, but rather good techniques for _doing_ science - well-considered, well-tested shoulders to stand on.

It's not as bad as that. I built 2 back back in 2008-2009, and they were rock stable-- kernel panics were extremely rare. They also didn't require much in the way of hackery. I put the EFI boot loader on a thumb drive and kept my OS X drive as free of hacked bits as possible. I wanted to be able to hook it up to a real Mac and boot it without issue, and I achieved this goal. Still, I would never recommend them in a business setting.

One of the machines was my daily driver, and dual booted Windows. The other ran OS X Server and was the fileserver in my house. The specs on the server were enough to get the job done, but my daily driver gave me top of the line Mac Pro performance for about $1200.

The only problem was OS updates-- they usually broke something. I maintained a bootable clone of both machines' boot drives, and waited a few days for other hackintoshers to find and figure out how to fix the issues before installing those updates. Both machines ran Snow Leopard for their entire term of service, which ended last year. They were replaced with refurb Mac minis. The hackintoshing was an interesting experiment, but I wanted a new OS without more hackery, supported hardware, and worry-free updating again. As a side effect, my electric bill fell off a cliff, which was nice.

Bullshit. We don't care about thinks that never have been called "crimes" in the first place. If it doesn't involve any form of initiation of force against another person or their property or of negligent harm to another person then it is not a crime in a sane society. As much of 80% of prison population is is for such non-crime. Many of the longer term prisoners are there for committing a non-crime 3 times back in the three strikes and you are out days. Let people out of cages that committed no real crimes and never put anyone in for such again.

I've been in EXACTLY that situation.

The solution is to make the license explicit and separate from the employment agreement.

This avoids situations where the IP license does (or does not!) expire when you leave the company.

Is it a paid-up-once license, valid forever, or renewable on a yearly (or even monthly) basis?

Does the license include the right to relicense (i.e. can the company sell a license to produce stuff based on your IP to third parties to manufacture and sell)

Does the license follow the company, if the company is bought out by $MEGACORP?

Can you maybe see how a. that sort of thing doesn't happen to men in the industry, and b. how very wrong it is to do stuff like this because of rumors of VIDEO GAME ETHICS VIOLATIONS?
