Comment if he was mentally ill, why didn't it end there? (Score 1) 297

Why didn't the FBI say "this person is mentally ill", and simply get him mental health services? Oh, right. That doesn't get you commendations for "stopping a terrorist attack."

A Muslim cleric isn't a mental health counselor or psychologist. They're a religious leader.

Comment Tabs are not enough (Score -1) 428

First of all tabs are not enough to properly format a source file, spaces are necessary, so your size argument goes out the door. Customize? Yeah, that's the problem. I am a 50 year old crusty gray manager of C++ development. When you have 20 developers working on a project, you don't want art, you don't want flair, you want predictable, you want correct, you wanted tested, you want uniformity. When you lose a developer you want to plug the replacement into well designed base so they feel like they don't have to rewrite it. You also want strict indentation (preferably with a tool), 80 column lines, function length limits, include guards, and consistent ordering of declarations in header files and 100 other correctness best practices. My advice. Use the default settings in Emacs, turn off tabs. It's all the IDE you will ever need.

Comment Anti-fracking agenda (Score -1) 166

The New Yorker's concern for Oklahomans is touching. It is a place in which they normally would have little interest.Or do they have an agenda? Nowhere in the article did they correlate the epicenter of earthquakes with the depth of drilling. The oil wells are simply too shallow. Nice try guys. South Central Oklahoma's Wichita Mountains are part of the remains of a continental rift system. There are deep normal faults, kilometers deep, and seismically active from time to time. Not unlike the more famous New Madrid fault of the Mississippi to the east. They should take time to learn about the geology of flyover country.

Comment Re:The big advantage of XOR (Score 5, Funny) 277

And what data structure do you have lying around at encryption time that's as long as the plaintext?

That's right, the plaintext. Use that as your one time pad. It saves you the headache of generating high-quality randomness if you just XOR the plaintext with itself.

The resulting ciphertext is not only theoretically unbreakable without the key, it is also highly compressible for economical transmission.

Here's a way that doesn't require any.

Not really sure why someone felt entitled to hide all this behind a mailing list subscription for a consulting company's email spam list, so here it is via free magnet download. I only included the "required" dataset in addition to the source and required libraries.

That should paste into most torrent clients, watch for CR/LFs though.
