Comment Re:If any slightest illness was ever even *suspect (Score 1) 440

I agree. Lawsuits for every little thing are so prevalent now that I wouldn't take the slightest chance of doing something at work that could result in one.

The problem is so bad now that people completely unqualified for critical life-safety jobs are now safe in their positions despite the cost to other peoples lives. I deal with this every day, and there is nothing I can do, without being sued out of home and life...

This seems completely contradictory. If everything is so litigious, how are these unqualified people in critical life-safety jobs?

How anyone got in trouble over moving to the Agency model (which is perfectly legal) while Amazon got off scott free for doing what everyone acknowledges was dumping (and to top it off, getting the courts to claim the *dumping* price to be the fair cost of goods) is a fucking travesty.

The judgement showed that Amazon's ebook division was profitable. Ergo, it's not dumping despite what you think "everyone" agrees.

Netflix buys cheap, low-quality bandwidth from Cogent, and now they're trying to force ISPs to give them direct transit (i.e. better performance than Cogent can provide) for free.

The guy who knows how the Internet works thinks AT&T is a transit AS in this scenario. It's their customers who requested the traffic from Netflix. Their PAYING customers.

Comment The unfortunate thing about memes for humanity (Score 1) 56

Is that they serve themselves, much like the 'selfishness' of genes. Some memes replicate because they're good for their group, e.g. leatherworking, tool use. Others replicate just because they're good replicators. I think it's obvious enough how the 'blow yourself up to kill infidels' meme doesn't do its 'host' any favours.

Humanity rebelled against genes, will be interesting to see if we can do the same to memes. Given that our consciousness itself may be inextricably linked to them it might be logically impossible to do so ;)
