Comment Java, the overweight, bulky language that sucks (Score 1) 319

How is this a contest? If I'm doing anything on a server, the last thing I'm going to reach for is Java. Java is slow, bulky, contains more overhead then functionality, eats memory for breakfast and basically breaks all concepts of what a good programming language can be. Servers need speed and reliability, well I can't argue about reliability, I can about speed. I don't care if you're stable, if you eat 20% of my system memory and make my server feel like a sports car in mud.

Submission + - Question: Good open source project management software

Murdoch5 writes: Hey Everyone

So I work at a small, super busy company. We have two full time developers, myself included and about twelve active projects at anyone time with varying degrees of complexity, we develop code for desktop, web, server and embedded products.

Recently I've been getting more frustrated by the lack of any real management at this company. I was wondering if the slashdot community can recommend any good open source, preferably web based technology to help me organize and assign development tasks.

What I would ideally want is a clean interface where I can input a project, divide it into smaller modules and assign / delegate those modules between myself and my co-worker. It would also be great to have some bug tracking and feature planning modules built in.

Comment cab drivers are mostly unqualifed (Score 1) 169

I think Toronto should get rid of cabs period. Being a Toronto resident I can tell how bad the cab infection has got around the city. They don't follow the traffic law, they don't drive safetly , they don't drive with common sense in mind and they completely fuck rush hour and add 10s of minutes to the commute. Toronto should either get properly trained cab drivers or move to Uber.

Comment Creationism - Logic for the mental child (Score 1) 1007

1) How evolutionary theory influenced Adolf Hitler's worldview:

Hitler was a roman catholic who blamed the Jews for the putting Jesus to death, that is why he enacted revenge. He later converted to atheism, but atheism had nothing to do with why the holocaust started. It's also important to note that evolution never played a roll in the holocaust.

2) why "the Big Bang is fake,"

This is a common topic by the creationist, the big bang is fake because something can't come from nothing. Except God came from nothing or always existed, either breaking there logic from the big bang or breaking common logic and creating a massive paradox. It's also important to note that if the universe can't come from nothing but God can, God would be at a higher informational state then the universe, so basically the creationist believes that you can't create a universe, but you can create higher order and information then the universe out of nothing. This is the single worst piece of logic used by the creationist.

3) Why "natural selection is NOT evolution."

Natural selection can't be part of evolution because we've never seen one speices evolve into another. Well if this is there logic, we never saw anyone write the bible, we never saw Jesus, we never saw God, etc.. etc.. etc.. another flawed piece of logic from the creationists.

Why on earth do we put up with this non-sense. Creationism is NOT science, it's not viable and it have absolutely zero evidence in it's favor. It's religious driven dogma that harm life, dignity, morals, rationality and ethics. I'll put to the creationists to show me ONE piece of hard evidence that backs up the existence of God. Keep in mind you can't cause a paradox or use the infinity logic. Go for it, I really want to see someone be the first person in history to take this on.

Comment So, never be afraid (Score 1) 232

It doesn't matter how much lashing you take from managers, co-workers or senior management. If something is wrong you need to point it out and stand up until it's fixed ( usually meaning you fix it! ). I was a on a project where my boss insisted on outsourcing all the programming to India to save money, it took over a week of arguing with him to make him realize that saving money doesn't make up for quality. I've been on other projects where marketing gets to set the requirements and managers pretty much adhere to "If marketing wants it, they will have it". In all cases the role you have to play is the same, stand up to people and tell them they need to fix the steaming piles of shit now before it snow balls. If you get fired for being right and standing up then good, it proves you have more integrity then the company did, if you get verbally beat down then it usually means you're right and should keep pushing back until something is done.

It's not luck, why would luck dictate my ability to quantify the amount of spacial reference around me and react? Granted that driving in India of China might be a different ball game but I still fail to see why I would need super human ability to text and drive, driving is only about taking in the amount if matter around you and reacting to it, something which a human brain is pretty good at, texting is simply typing a message and thanks to all keyboards being standardized you should be able to do that with out looking at the screen, so I fail to see your points, you're either a bad driver or you believe the lies about non-existent distracted driving.
