"Under an agreement to be announced Wednesday, Google (Charts, Fortune 500) will pay Nielsen an undisclosed amount to obtain detailed information about the kinds of people who watch specific TV shows." They claim that this will allow them to know the demographics of who is watching the TV commercials on EchoStar and Astound Broadband cable service for which they provide advertising service. Surely they can already obtain this information directly. What do they really want to use this information for?

A Fremont, CA man (John Stottlemire) who claims that he was trying to show his skill in order to get a job at Coupons, inc. created a program and showed people how to delete the files and registry entries that limited the printing of coupons using software from coupons.com. He now faces a lawsuit, from Coupons, inc., alleging DMCA violations. The company alleges that his actions are equivalent to those of DeCSS creator "DVD Jon". Mr. Stottlemire asks how deleting files off one's own computer can be illegal, while some lawyers suggest that the DMCA is very broad and may apply in this case.

P2P-oriented blog Torrentfreak claims that Comcast has now started to sever their customers' BitTorrent connections: "It is reported that Comcast is using an application from Sandvine to throttle BitTorrent traffic. Sandvine breaks every (seed) connection with new peers after a few seconds if it's not a Comcast user. This makes it virtually impossible to seed a file, especially in small swarms without any Comcast users. Some users report that they can still connect to a few peers, but most of the Comcast customers see a significant drop in their upload speed."
