If you change "male" to "female" then that's exactly what feminists were saying back in the 60s. You can fix the problem by adopting feminist ideals. Feminists want the same liberation for men, always have.

This is what they mean by the patriarchy. Not men in charge or dominating, but a society where both men and women feel that they have to be something they are not. Something that existed as an ideal historically, and which needs to be abandoned.

Forget all that, the best advice has always been and still is to be yourself. I mean your real self, not some macho bullshit version or overly nice. Just act normal and things will fall into place, because you both feel at ease.

All these games and schemes are pointless. You might get laid once or twice but forget about real relationships.

Comment Re:nature will breed it out (Score 1) 950

You are blaming the wrong group. It's not women who are the problem, or feminism. It's the lack of men's liberation.

Back in the 50s many women tried to live up to an ideal that men wanted, much as you describe women wanting now. Thin, beautiful, a good housewife, doesn't speak too much, dedicates herself to her man and her family while he goes out to work and then the bar with his friends.

Then in the 60s women were liberated. They rejected the old ideal and did what they wanted to do. They had careers, dressed how they pleased, didn't get married so early etc. It worked out well for them, and didn't result in the end of civilisation or marriage and families or anything like that.

Interestingly many of the problems men not have are mirrored by women in the 50s and 60s. They feel exploited by the opposite sex, and develop psychological problems.

All sample sizes are statistically significant, you just need to understand the error bars.
In this case, assuming a true accident rate of 4.5% (human-driven rate, bad assumption- but it's all we've got), a reasonable distribution, and a population size of 48, you have a 20% possibility of getting 4 accidents in the sample (8.3%), which is far too high to call conclusive by any stretch. A better conclusion would be: Very weak correlation found between self-driving cars and increase in accident incidence. Need more data to see if correlation is real.

Comment Re:that's fine (Score 2) 408

Sigh. If you took a sample of 48 US human-driven cars, you'd have a 20% chance of getting 4 accidents out of that 48.
I'm not trying to say that's huge, but that sample size of 48 is far too small to draw conclusions from statistics that contain millions of samples. The error bars are massive.

This isn't insightful, it's the opposite in fact. That's one selected quote from summary. I know it's not fashionable to RTFA or the study itself but trying to criticise it based on that one line is beyond ridiculous.

Obviously it's part of a wider pattern of behaviour, selected (badly) to illustrate it.

Slashdot used to provide insight. Now people who knee-jerk react to one line in the summary get modded up. I think the lower readership now has made the race to comment first worse as the period where stuff gets modded much is shorter.

Of do shut up, the pair of you.

This is clearly damaging behaviour. Like many addictions it screws up your life. It's not normal or healthy to be that obsessed with something. Most guys don't think about porn when they are with their girlfriends. Most people don't spend thousands of hours on a game, to the detriment of the rest of their lives.

This masculinist bullshit where everything men do must automatically be fine and dandy is stopping people who need help from getting it. It's as bad as the people who promote anorexia as being a good thing. Maybe you just really hate feminists and see conspiracies everywhere, or maybe you are just trying to justify your own self destructive behaviour, but either way it's wrong.

No-fault is about taking money away from lawyers, who used to litigate each and every auto accident as a lawsuit in court before the insurers would pay. Eventually the insurers decided that they spent more on lawyers than accident payments, and they had no reason to do so.

If you want to go back to the way things were, you are welcome to spend lots of time and money in court for trivial things, and see how you like it. I will provide you with expert witness testimony for $7.50/minute plus expenses. The lawyers charge more.

In general your insurer can figure out for themselves if you were at fault or not, and AAA insurance usually tells me when they think I was, or wasn't, when they set rates.
