Some of my coworkers have kids who are have specialties like programming, robotics, cybersecurity, or pre-engineering. When I was in high school, I would have jumped at the opportunity for that but looking back I think it would have been too young to start down a path. I knew several people who long before that made it to senior year of college or beyond and said I don't really love this thing I've been specializing in. I can't imagine where I would be if I'd made that decision at 14.

I'm with GP. Through my exposure to my coworkers' children, I'm seeing career specialization being encouraged during early high school. At that point in my education, I had zero formal introduction to what my career would become. To me and I think to GP, the phrase "cradle-to-career" doesn't mean that my daughter will pursue a career, but based on some "tests" my daughter might come out of the cradle with a specific career path to pursue.

I'm wanting to build my automation system over time. I've been wondering what is the best hub to take advantage of discounts in hardware. Laying aside for the moment that mass casualty events are rare, this very article is about MI-5 saying that even with super-strict gun laws and super invasive surveillance, they cannot prevent every mass casualty event. The schools and cinema shootings are just hyper-emotional events used by gun-control advocates to drive change. Controlling for the real problem (that we treat our poor like animals) by discounting cities whose numbers are driven by poverty and criminal gangs that thrive in poverty, the US has a very low homicide rate even lower than some European countries. Further, comparing the numbers worldwide, gun ownership does not correlate to homicide unless you choose to specifically look at firearm homicide. Guess what vehicle homicide rates correlate to vehicle ownership too.

It also mentions that higher costs will destroy the economy, completely ignoring the fact that my ISP having a huge influence on where my money goes isn't exactly the ideal free market economy or healthy for any economy.

What happens when the target image changes significantly? Like a suspect with cover? Holding waiting to shoot and you get to the right pixel and the suspect has moved out of view.

Just because it is legal through other methods doesn't mean someone won't try to make it illegal because it is digital related. These guys are pressing the laws in ways that give a better pressure release than having actual harm occur.

So you'd rather just wait till some idiot does something actually harmful with them before we hash out the legal issues? Imagine what happens if the first legal restriction comes after someone makes a gun or other weapon and actually kills a child.

A coworker of mine bought a new Charger a couple of months ago. He wanted fog lights but couldn't get the deal he wanted for one that did. He bought some OEM fog lights and the final step of installation was having a dealership register them with the manufacturer and then the manufacturer confirmed with the car's local computer that there were fog lights installed. He had to drive 50 miles to find a dealership who wouldn't charge more than the installation fee to register the things.

If voice mail is gone then people might expect me to answer my phone. I'd much rather deal with voice mail than having to talk to people on the phone when it isn't necessary.

I don't get the presumption that people with well-behaved children have that people who do use more harsh discipline for their children haven't tried other methods. I absolutely hate punishing my difficult child. I hate it more the more restrictive and severe that I have to be with him. I most certainly use empathy and consequences whenever possible for discipline. Those methods are effective for long term discipline and work flawlessly with my other children (so far), but for him are not always effective for short term compliance. I'm not even particularly harsh with discipline being effective for short term compliance if his behavior isn't hazardous.

I clicked through to the article. I'm not sure what this has to do with "experiencing" race. When people talk about racism it is about how people treat them because of their skin color but this looks like a virtual mirror that turns your skin color dark. It might have some minor effects on my behavior but it doesn't really instruct me about what it is to actually be someone of another race.
