Comment Political/Moral (Score 1, Troll) 305

These are people who analyze and predict the health of countries. Of course their results are more politically motivated than evidence based. Would it even be ethical to tell a truth that would cause an economic disaster? If economists had known in advance of one of the great depressions that it was going to happen, and releasing the results would of only sped-up the collapse, should they release the information? And it will always be better politically for the government to be just as surprised as everyone else when things go belly up, instead of being the president who predicted, but was unable to solve, the coming collapse.

Nothing was done to him that has not been done and worse to people caught with a few joints in their pockets. Almost 1% of americans go to prison, the vast majority for minor non-violent crimes. They are not only threatened with decades in the can, but actually do not have anyone willing to stand behind them and fight it, and did not stand 1/100th the chance that he did.

non-profit is nothing but an advertising term anymore.
If you run a for-profit corporation. Your corporation makes money which it spends to expand and invest and to pay salaries, and you might go home with a million dollar salary.

Or how about even the energy required to gather and use that energy? One barrel of oil costs a non-insignificant amount of energy to extract from the ground, and a non-insignificant amount to transport, and a non-insignificant amount to convert into electricity. Electricity that is then efficiently converted into work and results. Yes it costs X amount of energy to smelt the steel and weld it together, let alone light the factories and transport the materials and mine the ore (feed the workers?), but all of that is probably only happening at about a 10% efficiency.

How does that make any sense? I am selling a counterfeit item, of course I am selling it at below retail as there is risk involved for the client, and they must pay with cash as well. That does not mean that the retail price is too high, anymore than someone picking a twenty dollar bill up off the floor has twenty dollars too little in their bank account.
