All you have to do is state that if you take medicare you must use a system compatible with VistA.
It has been used for decades and has been updated as well. A lot of companies even use it as a base for their products.
I would love to see the US government move it from public domain to GPL but I doubt that is possible legally.

Actually history is not all that simple. Henry Ford also started paying his employees a living wage long before it was popular. In fact other industrialists hated him for raising wages.

Of course Auto Workers Union revises their own history and has removed a lot of the influence of radical communists from the official history.

He also "interfered" with his workers lives and offered programs to help with "heavy drinking", gambling, and dead-beat dads. He got a lot of flack for these programs in the day as being too intrusive.

Henry Ford in the end was a great man but also a product of his day. Today he would be seen as racist and anti-semitic. In the early 1900s he was seen are a radical progressive. No man is all good or all bad.

I was in school in the 1970s when they made a big push for metric and it is still a pain. You have generations of people that are used to cups, quarts, pounds, ounces, miles, feet, inches, and yards. Just in the UK it would take decades if not longer to make people comfortable with those measurements. Even then they will keep using the old systems forever. An American football field will always be 100 yards. You have at least a century of cookbooks that use ounces and cups. You have homees full of 2x4s. The change would require every lumberyard to have both traditional as well as metric wood sizes. And so on.

Finally when you get to temperature Fahrenheit is the one that is more mathematically correct. 180 degrees between freezing and boiling makes a lot more sense than 100 degrees. The one issue with Fahrenheit is the zero point was set at the lowest temp they could generate at the time. Just change that to the freezing point of water and it would be very close to perfect. The units in C are just too big for common use IMHO.

I think you are going too far the other way. GIMP on windows and Linux are not bad at all. GIMP on OS/X is really hard to use probably because GTK for OSX really lags GTK for windows.

GIMP is good enough for a lot of people and it is much more powerful than photoshop elements.
If you need Photoshop then you need Photoshop. Gimp is a really powerful program and not terrible to use but it is not Photoshop.

Google says you can use all of the Google services or none. You can use Android with no google services as at all like.... Amazon does.
Google allows the user to put on other search engines, It allows other browsers. It allows other nav.....
There is nothing questionably legal about it. Frankly it is about 1000% more permissive than IOS, WP8, or Blackberry.

My wife has spent a lot of time learning GIMP, Photoshop, and Photoshop elements.
GIMP is much better than elements but is not as good as Photoshop.
She still uses GIMP for some projects and recommends it to people that are just starting out or do not have the money to spend on Photoshop but GIMP is not a good replacement for photoshop.
GIMP is actually a good tool and a great value for the price but it is not a replacement for photoshop. Your comments about lemmings is a good example of what is wrong with the FOSS community.
