Comment Suddenly, to be released to market in 30 days (Score 5, Interesting) 102

Finally, we can have asynchronous GPU pairing? And cross-brands to boot? What's incredible is having heard nothing about this for so long, TFA now says a product may hit the market in the next 30 days. I take it that by sidestepping Crossfire and SLI technology, they won't have to pay any licensing fees to either AMD or NVIDIA. Hopefully the patent trolls won't be able to find any fodder that would prevent and delay commercial release.

I tend to think of "RINOs" as those that can actually think for themselves. I'm more likely to back one of them or a Blue Dog Democrat over someone that walks the party line.

Sometimes I agree with that. I just brought it up because the GP used Snowe's name to show that this particular bill has bipartisan support because she has a (R) after her name. Saying this bill is bipartisan because Snowe voted for it is like saying that the opposition to health care is bipartisan because some (D)'s oppose it.... or Iraq war because some D's were on board... or anything else where one party was able to sway a fence sitter from the other side. It means little until the final vote is something like 95-5.

I thought they meant receiver as well but someone on another site mentioned it is there to allow you to stream audio to your FM receiver (car or home or wherever). Hands free also sounds plausible. The N900 looks like the kitchen sink of mobile gadgets on paper. I hope it can deliver.

Does anyone else see a little irony in using nuclear power to extract oil energy?

More importantly, there's the implication here that nuclear is a more cost effective energy source than oil. This article may be old news for some better informed people, but increasing awareness of how nuclear power is used around the world may be what's needed to improve its perceived image among the general North American population.

The End of Tax-Free Internet Shopping? 784

Mordok-DestroyerOfWo writes "If a little-known but influential alliance of state politicians, large retailers, and tax collectors have their way, the days of tax-free Internet shopping may be nearly over. A bill expected to be introduced in the US Congress as early as Monday would rewrite the ground rules for mail order and Internet sales by eliminating what its supporters view as a 'loophole' that, in many cases, allows Americans to shop over the Internet without paying sales taxes."

Submission + - Obama unveils high-speed passenger rail plan (washingtonpost.com) 1

ozgood writes: President Obama unveiled his administration's blueprint for a new national network of high-speed passenger rail lines Thursday, saying such an investment is necessary to reduce traffic congestion, cut dependence on foreign oil and improve the environment. His plan would be funded in part through the recently passed $787 billion stimulus plan, which includes a total of $8 billion for improvements in rail service. Obama has also proposed a separate five-year, $5 billion investment in high-speed rail as part of the administration's suggested fiscal year 2010 budget.

The city of Chicago, Illinois, would be the hub of the proposed Midwest Regional Rail System, which would stretch to Madison, Wisconsin, in the Northwest; St. Louis, Missouri, in the South; and Detroit, Michigan, in the East.
