IBM's Plans For the Cell Processor 124

angry tapir writes "Development around the original Cell processor hasn't stalled, and IBM will continue to develop chips and supply hardware for future gaming consoles, a company executive said. IBM is working with gaming machine vendors including Nintendo and Sony, said Jai Menon, CTO of IBM's Systems and Technology Group, during an interview Thursday. 'We want to stay in the business, we intend to stay in the business,' he said. IBM confirmed in a statement that it continues to manufacture the Cell processor for use by Sony in its PlayStation 3. IBM also will continue to invest in Cell as part of its hybrid and multicore chip strategy, Menon said."

Best Buy Unapologetic About Charging For PS3 Firmware Updates 454

donniebaseball23 writes "After discovering that electronics retailer Best Buy was charging ignorant customers $30 for the 'service' of installing updated firmware on PS3s, IndustryGamers got word from the company on its policy. Best Buy sees no problem with charging for this convenience, even though it's something Sony provides to PS3 owners completely free. 'While many gamers can handle firmware upgrades easily on their own, those customers who do want help can get it from Geek Squad, and we continue to evaluate this offering to ensure it meets their needs. The service goes beyond a firmware updates, and includes user account setup, parental control setup and other components,' a representative said."

This isn't a tiny pool or hotel, this is Vegas pool party territory, where there are thousands of people at each massive pool. The pools cost over $60m each, just to gain entrance is $50/person. It's basically a big, very loud, drunken party in the midday sun.

They missed a fantastic opportunity here, they could have used the ray to heat the pool !

If you watch and rate 5 movies/shows per day it only takes 27 years. That's if you don't commit suicide before then.

I once took a weekly history of film class. In one session we watched 3 buster keaton movies in a row, then a Jackie Chan movie
that lifted several scenes right from Keaton classics. By the third Keaton feature in a row, laughs were few and far between because we were literally laughed out after a couple of hours. The Jackie
Chan flick (maybe Police Story?) brought us back around, though, the fast pace, and the addition of sound/dialogue was a welcome relief.

Big Brother In the School Cafeteria? 425

AustinSlacker writes "An Iowa school district's lunch program asks children as young as 5 years old to memorize a four-digit PIN code so it can monitor what they eat in the school cafeteria - prompting some parents to claim it's an unhealthy case of 'Big Brother.' An over reaction by parents or an unnecessary invasion of privacy?"

we'll get to the convergence later"

Stats Show iPhone Owners Get More Sex Screenshot-sm 397

An anonymous reader writes "According to OK Cupid's survey of 552,000 user pictures iPhone users have more sexual partners than BlackBerry or Android owners. By age 30, the average male iPhone user has had about 10 partners while female iPhone users have had 12. By contrast, BlackBerry users hover around 8 partners and Android users have a mere 6. As the blog's author's wryly observe: 'Finally, statistical proof that iPhone users aren't just getting f*@ked by Apple.'"

Hi there,
I too lament the lack of classic pinballs. There is a skateboard shop on 11th street just off of first avenue that has a few classic
pinballs if you are in the neighborhood, but nothing like the rows of machines we'd see in big arcades. On the plus side, the flippers
are nice and strong. Nothing like walking up to a great pinball machine only to find out the bumpers are busted and the flippers barely flip.
