I just asked to compare the cost in loss of life and property of antifa and blm riots to what the alleged huge right wing group I hardly ever heard off, called PB did. Or in fact do the comparison on the whole right and whole left. We could see then. Instead you argue that I said something that I did not say. How nice. It even fits what I meant about poisoned sense-making.

You cannot argue with these people. It is noble that you try, but this is not going trough. They are gone - the same as this reporter talking about peaceful protests while you could see burning city and riot going on in the background. I suspect that big chunk of this population does not even realize what they are talking about. This is off topic of course but maybe not - the way we all in the West cannot communicate anymore because we cannot even agree on facts. I suspect this was always so only the massively hyper-connected crowds expose the fact that huge majority always delegates sense-making to external authority as they did for millennia before. There are quite some interesting podcasts describing this process (war on sensemaking) on yt. No sign of solution tho. It seems neither media nor politicians are willing to do anything constructive either. Let us hope courts will moderate this madness.

BTW assuming PB is a supremacist organization (I do not believe anybody now calling racism or supremacy no more - thanx to modern day media and activists) - how big it is comparing to the hordes of thugs burning the cities in the name of fighting alleged racism? How many people have died and how much property have been lost comparing to antifa activities over the same period of time? But as said - as the media lied so much before how should I believe anything they say? At the end we are all lost and have to believe instead of trying to know.

it already starts there - wearing masks by population at large is at least controversial and may amount to psychological action rather than anything else. It certainly does not make any sense to force kids to wear them, besides the corona effect on kids etc - they just do not wear them properly. Just saying. Washing hands is probably having a bigger effect. Distancing maybe. Psychological effects of this all are going to be enormous that one is for sure.

Modelling is hard and it relies on simplifications which tend to change the results especially in a bunch of non-linear processes like spreading of an infection. You can add on top the way corpses are counted - there are some studies in UK that claim miss-classification of up to 30% i.e. 30% of corona dead were falsely identified as such. This later problem is known from before Corona - which is why the epidemiologists rely on dead body count over the years to compare different seasons (makes sense for respiratory infections which come in regular waves every year when it gets wet and cold). Also naive (to not call them fake) reports about the number of infections generally rely on PCR tests which besides being unreliable are also tend to present positive tests as case of infection which is for number of reasons incorrect. The relative number of positive cases to the number of tests is always a must and mostly ignored. You cannot expect media of course to present reliable news - their business model relies on panic. The governments is another matter. I am still waiting on exact evaluation of what happened in Bergamo. probably a version of errors made in NY and UK. The pictures of body bags transproted out of town were shocking enough for most of us not to q. what exactly happened. As with Mr Floy one could add. All this makes models difficult to make properly as their accuracy assessment depends on the data you compare with.
Besides all this, I also wonder how many will die of malnutrition in the world due to measures.

Panic all over. Data thrown w/o any reference points. Panic! We are going to die. If not now then by the second wave. For sure. Yet the supermarkets crews i.e. people who worked all the shutdown and hardly ever wore masks do not fall victim to the virus. Must have special protection. or so we are let believe. Serious illness, no question about it. But why dont we look at why the mortality varies so much across countries and at what now available data really says? Too difficult to comprehend maybe? Certainly if your education concentrates on gender studies and even astrophysics is concerned (why not - math is a sign of white oppression too) about who has conceptual penis and who a real one then all is lost. According to German federal government agency tasked with the air-quality controls (and believe me the institution charged with setting up is full of green activists so theiy are scratching their heads now) the pollution levels do not correlate with the levels of traffic. They just do not. They do correlate with other weather conditions like sun exposure, wind speed and direction etc. There is an influence of course. But it is not what they told us before. This may mean many things, among others: that modern diesel engines of cars used by German residents are so good now that they indeed produce very little pollution (particulates and NOx). It however means nothing to advocates of diesel bans and other nonsense. What you surely should see is that industry pollution went down in most developing countries (this includes Italy although they are on the other slope by now for quite some time). There should also be a quite visible change in weather patterns due to massive reduction of air travel. I can see it with naked eye - no "chemtrails" (this was meant to be irony). There are hardly any flights from 3 major airports and military base around where I live - civil travel is restricted and the Nato airbase moved their HW away because of the massive corona outbreak in the county where the base is located. I suppose places where the power stations and other owners of coal burning furnaces have no elector-filters will not produce all the dust and other stuff that they usually produce. You see this change in air-quality in workshop of the world - in Asia. I suppose this is all conspiracy of the wokariat and other related activists like extinction rebellion. If you want to do something to "CO2 etc" emissions got to Asia and leave us alone.

Comment Re:This is "nominal capacity", a.k.a. output when (Score 2) 153

There are number of costs factors that the fans of wind and solar to lesser extent do not count:

  1. the power lines indeed have to be everywhere - to each of the windmills and back to the mesh, combined with chargers for our electric cars we have a lots of copper under the ground.
  2. the energy density is low so you probably need to built those things over the whole land, this will decrease the speed of air (the energy comes from somewhere) and this in turn will make surface warmer
  3. you will have to cover for lack of energy in still time and no the spread over huge area does not really help - in north of Europe we have still months and then there is no wind anywhere. so you need some form of additional capacity for two things: spikes if it blows too much or something falls out for a short while and for longer times there is no wind at all.

We can do it and we will probably but this will cost us dearly and I am not entirely sure what this is going to achieve that we put this much concrete in the ground (the foot is huge) other than lots of CO2 (concrete!) and you make possible vegetation that was once there, gone for good. Plus the unavoidable modifications of our energy production and distribution facilities will still have to be matched by changes in consumption as there will not be enough and the price will be high.
Other than this, it is a splendid idea for some places and applications. The fucking windmills everwhere annoy the hell out of me and the birds will be put under sever evolutionary pressure to see the fucking blades traveling with high speed. What that is - in principle it is a nice shot at the unwashed masses, a new distinction of how wealthy you are will then be: if you can wash and cook (they force to switch from gas to electricity in Europe now) when you want and not when it is cheapest or is there in the first place. Revolution of the green elites. But I am an old white man and was hetero till now so I know nothing and am being racist already by having a tenacity to even be there and breath - I suppose I should be ashamed of myself. I guess that is not going to happen tho....
