Journal Journal: Materialism

I have found the true spirit of Valentine's day. It says that you can find your heart's desire at Ebay. I can't help but find it funny today.

Journal Journal: Evolving past programming

http://www.carlzimmer.com/articles/2005/articles_2005_Avida.html

That is truly awesome. What's more, we talked about a similar computer program that came out years ago in my biology course a few weeks ago (granted that one was not supposed to do what it ended up doing). This is more complex and cooler (more believable, too; I know the teacher said it was made commercial and well-known about and all, but I don't know, the way he explained it didn't seem plausible to me at the time -- perhaps I shall investigate furthur).

Journal Journal: I would like to assert that

People like circumstances they can manipulate but that are slightly out of their control. Circumstances that are out of one's control are no good and ones too far under one's control are dull. That's why we become [at least initially] interested in lots of the things we do.

Journal Journal: and so it came to be

For the first game of the day I was stuck on Bill's team. So, not hits on him. I had pretty well forgotten about the hit I planned to lay on him until he blocked me in the face during a kickoff during the second game. That pretty well jogged my memory. I only ended up with one opportunity to pay him back all game. I took it.

It started on my own ten where he caught the ball and Lewis and I were the only two in the area. I shoved Bill, but he managed to stay up because of those damn cleats he insists on wearing. So, he moved downfield a bit after regaining his footing and saw Lewis on his right. Being the idiot he is, Bill cut back to his right. I just so happen to be faster than him and had caught up right behind him. It went pretty fast, but as best I can recall I got both hands on his shoulders, yanked him backwards off his feet, side-flipped him behind me over my knee as fast and hard as I could with all of my forward momentum. Stopped him at the one :-D

Yeah, so he took a minute's rest (as did his team who thinks almost as highly of him as he does).

I felt redeemed for all those damn head/jaw/knee shots. It definitely trumped td catches, broken up plays, and Pat's amazing finger-tip catch for a td for my favorite moment of the day.

Journal Journal: Psychology II rocks

Pyschology II is an awesome in the first place, but today it went to a completely different level. We were discussing gender differences again. This time spatial abilities were brought up and how males typically have better spatial abilities; likely the result of more childhood activity. To demonstrate te point, Mr. William's brought in a PS2 and Gran Tourismo 3. This is, obviously, completely out of character for him, but the point he wanted to make was valid. We had an assortment of guys and girls play it and then looked at the completion times for the course. Out of the six couples that played, the guys won five of the times (the loss being by two seconds to a girl who had the game at home). It was pretty interesting. I don't think anything could ruin my day after that. Even the dentist appt didn't phase me in the least.

Journal Journal: Interests

As with each Monday at PHCC there comes a point where I need a break. It comes every forty-five minutes. If I don't get one, then I tend to end up just writing down or figuring stuff out in my notebook that has nothing to do with the class. Last week I made a list of programs to put on my laptop (which is scheduled for delivery tomorrow). This week (today) I think I'll make a list of possible hobbies, sports, activities, etc. etc. etc. that I may be interested in pursuing -- such as maybe taking up running, or golf again, perhaps programming. I guess I'll see how the list goes (assuming I don't get regular forty-five minute breaks in class). Carpe diem quam minimum credula poster!

Journal Journal: Psychology: gender differences 5

Today in Psychology we focused on gender differences. The first part I'm going to bring up is that girls tend to have a few close friends and guys tend to have more aquaintances. That is how I am, there's no disputing it. For the most part I do have lots of aquaintances. The next part will clear up the next part about close friends. Girls talk to their friends and guys don't. Sure we go hang out and whatever, but there isn't really much of substance. That is pretty much true also. I don't have friends who I tell anything significant. For example, today I think I only talked to my friends about movies, school, people, and sports. Do I ever talk about what most people would consider "significant?" Nope. It's not a bad thing, I prefer resolving things on my own and then not being bound to a decision by my word. If I say something to someone and then have a change of heart, it is not easy to go back on it without being able to provide some sufficient cause or reason. There were a bunch of other neat social things we talked about in psychology, but people don't like reading long entries, so this is the end.

So /. already has an article on it...I don't care, I'm reproducing the information here anyway.

Here's your preparation for what is to come.

And now, here it is! Make sure to read the critics' comments at the bottom. :-D

Journal Journal: New routine?

For the past couple of nights I've gone to bed around 10:00 (yeah, I never go right to sleep -- always think for too long -- but it is an earlier start on it) and waking up a bit before 7:00. It feels good. I may try to keep it up. I don't like the Patriots or the Eagles (though I dislike the Eagles more than any other team), so I may just skip the end of the game tonight.
NES (Games)

Journal Journal: Emulator

MegaMan was such a great game for the SNES. I think I've missed it. It's good to have it on my computer. That'll be one of the first things I put on my laptop. Thanks go out to Andrew for that one. Past there I've got a list of about twenty things I plan to put on it first day. Now that I got CivIII back from Andrew, I can put that on, too. That means more AIM conversations while playing a game. That game is perfect for it. Alas, I must wait.

Now for a quandry: do I get KOTOR 2 today so I have it when the laptop arrives or do I not bother to go out and get it tonight?

Journal Journal: Live from New Port Richey, it's Saturday Afternoon!

Last week I typed without the aid of one finger, this week it is without the use of an eye. Bill, who has hit me in the face every game he's been at, hit me in the face. Forearm/elbow to the left eye (my better eye vision-wise). He also split my lip on another play, but that doesn't matter. Not that the eye really does: it's not terribly noticible in my opinion and doesn't hurt (though it is becoming a bit cold from the ice). Next game I think I'll give Bill a subtle knee to the nuts (impressive aim, I know) -- or as subtle as a knee to the nuts can be.... Oh well. I'm not sore, so I might end up going for a run tonight. I may also eat that steak I refused to waste on my eye.

Yesterday, after getting some computer stuff, JJ and I went to see Million Dollar Baby. It was a good movie -- I wouldn't go see it again because of the last third being a definite change in the momentum and pretty sad. Anyway, I was watching it at one point and thinking that black eyes looked like they really sucked and that I was glad I never got one. Well, I took karate for a couple of years and never got one, nor from any of the other sports I've engaged in over the years. I was talking to my mom about the irony of it and she told me that I actually had one when I was about two and a half years old. So, so much for that: this is my second shiner.

On an unrelated note, my laptop should be coming in this week. That right there is enough to pull another week of school out of the gutter.

Journal Journal: Students

The way people reacted to the story about Adam today bothered me. Everyone seemed to think it was funny. People were laughing that his life was ruined. I think that the child's father started asking his son directive questions like "Has Adam ever touched you?" With the way that some kids phrase responses and take questions, I think it could have come across wrong to the father. I don't think that he commited the crimes he's been charged with. The way people were poking fun at the situation bothered me. His goal in life is now unattainable. After all of this, even if a jury or whatever it comes to rules in his favor, he could never teach in this area. His good name has been ruined in the education department. He'd have to move elsewhere. Some people were flat out obnoxious despite Adam's life being ruined...irritating.

Journal Journal: [insert ellipses]

One of my friends has apparently been charged with a rather bad crime. Makes one wonder about society. Did he really? If so, why? he'd never get to teach. If not, then why was it said? he doesn't have the money to be sued for anything worthwhile. Was there a misunderstanding? I don't know. I don't like this. I am inclined to believe he didn't commit the alleged crime and I hope that he didn't.

I can't help but wonder why his name was released. He's a minor. By the way, Andrew, my family, and everyone I've ever spoken to believes that ABC Action News is "slime." Yes, even before this segment.
