Comment Why So Much? (Score 1) 88

Statistical analysis tells us that if we take a small subset of data we can make some pretty strong predictions about the general population. Therefore you don't need billions of records to make strong predictions.

The data is also out of date almost immediately as people do change so it's better to take small samples and analyse them than to try to gather all the data possible.

Also no one is average in fact when they calculated what an average PHYSICAL frame should be they found that no one was close to being average on more than one axis.

The only good reason to collect so much data about people is to recreate them for addition to the singularity when it comes, which I suppose is a noble goal but I'd prefer if they tried to make things better now.

Just my 2c.

I wish Google still "Don't be evil."

I had a business selling G1 (Still an excellent form factor I hope they bring it back.) and I would Root and Superuser them and install custom Roms.

They were really amazing, the early Android modding scene had a lot of potential.
25% better battery life.
40% better performance.
More customization options.
Excellent GUIs.

But I ramble.

Anyway nowadays it's hard to Root and get SuperUser and I don't understand why.

It's actually put a lifespan on Android which is sad.

Now Android is like Facebook, constantly getting worse and losing sight of what made it better than alternatives.

I don't want to be one of those old people who think things were better in the past, give me something to work with.

I support bitcoin because I think it's innovative. I think there'a a lot of potential for an internet money free from a large organization or government control.

It doesn't bother me too much that I didn't get in "On The Ground Floor" because I see the people who invested or innovated as believers in a cause and innovators who will use their wealth to improve the system.

I think Bitcoin will rise again.

I also think there is too much talk about manipulation. People would need to intentionally lose money for it to be considered manipulation and people tend not to do that.

Also shorting doesn't necessarily lower the price of a stock or commodity. It just encourages behaviors to lower value which is why it's so tightly regulated. Selling short is no different than selling held value except for the person doing the selling and the organization that invests in their speculation.

It's sad to see Slashdotters not investing in bitcoin. It could be the golden goose which funds a lot of technological innovation if creative believers would get behind it.

It's particularly disturbing to consider right-wing nutjobs not investing in bitcoin, it's pretty much a wet dream for all those who believe in free markets and avoiding government intervention yet they're so skeptical they're not supporting their dreams coming true.

I'm pretty left leaning so I see a lot of potential for harm in a deflationary currency but I see a lot of potential to overturn the petrodollar and I think that's worth supporting.

When Japan entered the global market they had a reputation of creating shoddy products.

Then they worked hard and got a reputation as making some of the best products.

If Sony and the other Zaibatsu's can keep up this level of commitment to products they will destroy the built to break conspiracy and Japan will get more respect than ever for making great products which are well supported.

Child porn isn't only illegal because of the crimes already commited.

A study was conducted which indicated that if you viewed child porn you were more likely to molest children.

Child porn is therefore the cause of crime as well as evidence of a crime, that is why it is so illegal.

The study wasn't particularly well done but it was well received.

I wonder if this will affect the value of bitcoin much, it certainly makes it less savory.
