Submission + - Handango reams a small developer - take 2

Stugots writes: "/. had the chance to lead on this story, but you muffed it. Maybe now you'll post something about it?

Because it's now being carried on The Register. See http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/10/31/handango_k icks_omnisoft/.

Handango has ruthlessly (literally) terminated an independent vendor's account with them, and reneged on a marketing award. No reason given, except for some fatuous "we have private information we cannot divulge" reasons that sound a lot like George W. Bush is running Handango."

Bot Nets Behind Recent Spam Surge 389

gsslay writes "Everyone must have noticed a surge in spam recently, particularly for stock pump 'n' dump scams. The Register reports that anti-spam companies have seen a 30% increase in the last two months and, more worryingly, more of this spam is getting through to mailboxes due to the spammers' change in tactics. Rather than use unsecured mail relays spammers are using bot nets, making spam harder to identify and eliminate. Bounced spam is also on the up, and some experts reckon it's past time to start worrying. "

ESPN Mobile Reaches The End Of The Road 125

fishdan writes "Sportsdot is reporting on the fact that people are apparently not interested in watching baseball (or any other sport) on a cell phone screen. ESPN Mobile is (ahem) pulling the plug after less than one year of service. Current subscribers will get content till the end of the year, and their handset purchase refunded. You have to wonder what other mobile content is going to have to be rethought." "Ahead of its time" might be one take on this as well. It'll be interesting to see when the time is right.

Submission + - Online Gambling Not Banned Yet!

fishdan writes: For the moment, the rush to legislate the ban on online gambling has been slowed. Senator John Warner, (R) from Virginia, has refused to allow the banning of online gambling to be tacked on to an upcoming defense bill. Opponents of online gambling were hoping to tack their measure on to a bill that "must pass" but will apprently be forced to delay. Congress recesses in one week, giving only a few days left if this measure is to be passed before the November 7th elections.

Jani has been involved with PHP for about 6 years and his loss will undoubtedly be a big blow for the PHP project."

Sportsdot has the scoop on the Northern League reneging on it's earlier commitment to replace 2 Innings of a real baseball game with 2 innings played on an X-box. Now however Northern League Commisioner Mike Stone has ended the "Fantasy Baseball" dreams of two Xboxers, by reversing hims
