I call Bullshit. What "people" are you talking about? The people around here are concerned with
all proprietary and closed computers.

As a matter of fact this was a popular topic around here a few years ago.
It turns out, there ARE people that want access to the computers in their car, they
believe they can do a better job, and that mods are a good thing. Smart phones are
the big fad these days, so you read about unlocking and rooting frequently.

Lazy? Why would I want to type html ever?

because having known how to since the 90's, it isn't such a big deal to type html tags, and it is what keeps a bunch of idiots pasting
a bunch of idiotic links all over the damn place in the comments. And this is news for nerds, we like doing shit like that.
If we wanted "normal people news" and features we wouldn't be here.

Who is this Vince you speak of and why are we blaming him instead?
Vince, vint, whatever. Listen up unix beardlings because I am about to drop some real history and knowledge on you.
He is some surfer guy who was too stoned on Maui Wowie to figure out we needed more than 3.4 Billion Addresses.
His name is Vint Cerf, and actually is the REAL REASON why we call it "web surfing".
Back in the olden days before young punks like you had global village modems, ISPs and dialup access and stuff,
us oldbeards were sitting pretty on T3's, "Cerfing" the internet. Well, it wasn't long until Cerf became Surf, and
that you young whippersnappers is how the fax machine was invented.

angry tapir writes "Development around the original Cell processor hasn't stalled, and IBM will continue to develop chips and supply hardware for future gaming consoles, a company executive said. IBM is working with gaming machine vendors including Nintendo and Sony, said Jai Menon, CTO of IBM's Systems and Technology Group, during an interview Thursday. 'We want to stay in the business, we intend to stay in the business,' he said. IBM confirmed in a statement that it continues to manufacture the Cell processor for use by Sony in its PlayStation 3. IBM also will continue to invest in Cell as part of its hybrid and multicore chip strategy, Menon said."

Best Buy Unapologetic About Charging For PS3 Firmware Updates 454

donniebaseball23 writes "After discovering that electronics retailer Best Buy was charging ignorant customers $30 for the 'service' of installing updated firmware on PS3s, IndustryGamers got word from the company on its policy. Best Buy sees no problem with charging for this convenience, even though it's something Sony provides to PS3 owners completely free. 'While many gamers can handle firmware upgrades easily on their own, those customers who do want help can get it from Geek Squad, and we continue to evaluate this offering to ensure it meets their needs. The service goes beyond a firmware updates, and includes user account setup, parental control setup and other components,' a representative said."
