I agree. I lived with Win8 for a month or so but just got so annoyed having to slide my mouse around just to close a window and having to fight just to get to the desktop. I gave it a good try, but then I just booted the whole thing and went back to Win7.
My question is, if you hated it as much as I did. Why didn't you just install a replacement shell? And I say that as someone who's been using Windows for 28 years.

This is the thing about leaders of countries who "don't really care." They don't also care if they lose the war either, they also don't care about the people under them. They simply care about inflicting as much harm as possible against their enemies as they can even if everyone under them dies. This is why N.Korea has so much artillery pointed at Seoul. And in turn, this is why a country like Iran regularly spouts off on the "genocide" bit while perusing nuclear weapons.
But saying that Japan and N.Koreas relations have been improving, are like saying that the relations between Taiwan and China have been improving. If they're already at the bottom, there is no place to go but up. And the countries around N.Korea haven't forgotten the mass abductions from them where they'd sneak in and take scientists. Since neither word was either a positive, not sure why someone would want to reclaim it in the first place. Sure, if you belong to either one of those groups then it's perfectly a-okay to use those terms. Not only that, but it's encouraged and in some cases glorified.

The problem is, you need intelligence agencies. You need to protect yourself from enemies foreign and domestic. You need to be able to be able to spy on other governments to find out their ulterior motives, and you need to be able to conduct covert operations instead of engaging in full out wars. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's sure a lot better than what we had before the agencies existed. But they've expanded beyond their scope and purpose.

What's funny is that if you slapped in your favorite UI replacement, then Win8 became even better than 7. Faster, more stable, and if you're a gamer gave even better performance. Remove that, and it was a huge pain in the ass, so in your post I can't quite figure out the "by 9.x it'll be as useable as 7 again..." there's paid options such as Start8, not paid options such as Classicshell. And really, if you couldn't be bothered to replace the awful UI for something else, that's your own problem.
I will say there are still bugs in it. I just ran across probably the most rare of them regarding SSD's yesterday. Where an open handle which isn't properly closed on shutdown, on a SSD volume can lock a SSD, in turn causing the volume to become corrupt. Needless to say, not impressed by that one.
