Well, assuming they get the R&D effort to refine them, presumably whatever you like, at the appropriate price point.
A fixable issue methinks, if the basic technology works, as it seems to.

Could be nice way of sidestepping the Chinese and their "rare earth" near-monopoly.

(Although my old electrostatic speakers do that too, and sound fantastic. Not sure the voltages involved would scale to ear buds powered by mobile devices, tho')

Comment Nothing to stop you implementing both. (Score 1) 415

So plenty of BMW (Bitching, Moaning & Whining) in this thread.
But it's actualy a good idea.
Since there's absolutely nothing, repeat nothing, to stop Apple or anyone else having a micro-USB port on their device AND another connector.
Like Lightening, or whatever else they want....
Then bundling the specific cable/charger, (with better specs, high amps etc. if required) into the package.
Again, if they want, and customer is prepared to pay.
What's the marginal cost of having two connectors, especially for a product costing upwards of $500, $750?
Damn all.

It's mainly the ongoing impact of German reunification.
A lot of the old East is still an economic wasteland, sucking huge amounts of cash.
There's even a special "temporary" payroll tax, still in place, to cover the cost.
The westerners hate it...

Hi, European here; our economies are all crippled by massive debt burdens and punitive tax rates caused mainly by excessive government spending. Yes, much of that's on good stuff like education and healthcare, but a lot also goes to massively-bloated do-nothing Govt or quasi-gov institutions... We also spend plenty of money (as a percent of GDP) on the military...

Well, plenty of high-education intuitions here n Europe charge high fees, and even the 'free' ones have charges.
So sadly, regarding the top post, kids prostituting themselves to pay for their tuition are not rare.
That's in addition to the ones doing it just to stay alive, of course.
Many parts of Europe are far from being the Socialist paradise that some would have you believe.

As always, responsible people should ensure they check the facts before spending money.
I find the Internet, including Goggle quite useful for this, actually... /sarcasm
Recently I got a much better price for renting a car via a specialist site than I could on the renter's own website, and it's often the same for hotels.
So yes, I can believe that you may not get the best deal if, say, Hertz partners with Google to target you.
But nobody is forcing you to click on the ad...
Yet.

Comment You need a "poachers pocket" (Score 1) 296

That's a large pocket at the back of your jacket, hidden in the inside.
Very easy to sew one in yourself...do a few jackets...
Put some elastic at the top to stop the pocket mouth gaping, and hold the pad.
Works well for me.

Don't sit back against something hard, though, or you either smash the pad, your back, or both.

I would not suggest using a purse, since as you are probably not used to carrying one, you are likely to forget it...

For sure Dirty Larry would have fired Jobs even faster than Scully did.
Having said that, the road ahead for Apple looks rocky, with strong competition in the phone and tablet markets.
But they have plenty of cash, and smart people. Let's see what they will come up with next.
Hopefully it will be more innovative than just another screen size...
