fyi, these guys actually believe in what they are doing. So they aren't lying - deluded is more accurate. It's an epistemological problem, something which many of us know little about.
Online voting doesn't solve any problems. If you can't get your arse down to a local school/town hall etc every 5 years to tick a fucking box then you don't deserve a vote. You want a paper trail so you can do recounts and prevent fraud. It's not so hard to understand.
I guess Safari for Windows on generic hardware (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3657) doesn't yet exist in your continuity.
Professor Andy Adamatzky has published a number of papers on plasmodium computing. See his web page at UWE Bristol:

and the video complimentary material for the article "Physarum boats: If plasmodium sailed it would never leave a port" at:

The video requires a Intel Indeo 5 decoder plugin.
The word "bully" comes to mind, but I fear it is too simplistic and doesn't adequately describe the depth of planning and focus demonstrated.
Strategic bullying?
If Soyuz has a severe problem during landing, it ends up in another country.
If the Shuttle has a severe problem during landing, it blows up. There is literally no room for error.
Do you see where I'm going here? There were likely some gross oversights that led to the incident you linked to -- however, by virtue of the fact that Soyuz is both simple and mature, the craft is able to survive the statistical fluke of a faulty explosive bolt.
Play Zelda. I know it may seem silly at the start, but don't judge them by that. Zelda 64 and later all seem to have pretty amazing "journeys" to them, if you play for a while. From what I've heard of people playing older Zeldas, the experience is much the same. Easily some of the best games I've ever played, out of a small selection that I even liked.
For me it's not just having to wear special glasses that puts me off, it's that 3D can give me a headache preety easily if the director decides to do something stupid.
I watch TV to relax, anything which gives me eyestrain is not going to work.
(And I got modded insightful for my own whining? WTF?)

Easier, because most of the worldbuilding is already done for you;
I don't believe authors ought to be involved in what's called "world building".
