Now, I agree with you... to a degree (and I'm not here to side with the GP), but how about all the people that are "60+, with a lifetime of hard work behind you, yet still faced with a future of poverty and desperation."
Quite often life just sucks, most people don't have a Madoff to point to though.

Couldn't agree with most of what you said more, just wanted to add one thing:

and they go to sleep and then wake up from sleep very quickly.

I finally got around to using the Windows 7 upgrade I bought (on pre-order so it's been a while - it was just too cheap to pass up, but I never figured it would be much of an improvement). My formerly Vista laptop now wakes from sleep, with network connection, just as fast as my girlfriends Mac! (like 2 seconds) I am kicking myself for waiting so long...

Hey, I don't use them, I was merely suggesting a viable solution if you happen to be curious about what the link might be. If you have never tried it, the preview function shows you the full url of the site without taking you there. The hostility is a bit misplaced, don't you think?

Your assertion is correct, but you gave a sort of bad example. If a kid signs up for a sport at school (for example), generally there is a contract signed by the kid that he or she will not do drugs or will be tossed off the team. This is above and beyond what the rest of the student body is subjected to, and the kid makes the choice to sign. If the cops report it to the school, the issue is clear cut.
But there are many other examples out there to back what you said.
