WTF is "locked in"? Or what is a "locked in printer" in general for that matter? I have one, I use it nearly every day, and if there is anything "locked in" Im completely missing it. I do use 123D Design for modeling, but also Sketchup and Solidworks and Ive tried others and they happily interoperate. I get PLA from China, aftermarket parts from eBay, and Makerbot even supports that. Their website even promotes open source 3d modeling software.

The API is the STL file format, which is pretty open. Just about any CAD program can generate one. Thats fed into either the Makerbot slicer or the open source Skeinforge slicer to generate the X3G files that get sent to the 'Bot. What do you want to do that needs more openness than that?

The Bank Event Horizon - Many years ago this was a thriving, happy planet - people, cities, shops, a normal world. Except that on the high streets of these cities there were slightly more banks than one might have thought necessary. And slowly, insidiously, the number of the banks were increasing. It's a well-known economic phenomenon but tragic to see it in operation, for the more banks there were, the more they had to charge and the more had to be borrowed to pay for it. And the more they borrowed the higher the fees became, and the more the banks proliferated, until the whole economy of the place passed what I believe is termed the Bank Event Horizon, and it became no longer economically possible to build anything other than banks. Result - collapse, ruin and famine. Most of the population died out. Those few who had the right kind of genetic instability mutated into beings with no buttocks to carry wallets.

Submission + - The Fascinating Science Behind Beer Foam

RenderSeven writes: Science has so far been at a loss to explain why tapping a beer bottle with another causes it to explosively foam over. Thanks to a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, a research team at the University of Madrid studying fluid mechanics has found the answer with some fascinating slow-motion video. Their soon-to-be-published paper found that tapping the bottle (or shooting it with a laser) causes a series of compression and expansion waves, that generate unstable buoyant plumes, quickly turning most of the liquid into foam. PhysicsBuzz notes that the process is very rapid and nearly unstoppable once started.

We are on topic. NPOV means stick to facts, not attacks. Truth undermines poor decisions and supports good decisions. What possible objection could you have to posting factual wikipedia content? How is anyone served by not posting? I dont see a downside and you have not postulated one. I would probably be satisfied with the notation even if you wrote it, if you could dial your emotions down to, say, 9.

"Ad hominum"? You mean that thing you started? Bloody hypocrite.
