Journal Journal: Quote: The Apology of Socrates

"The wisest of you men is he who has realized, like Socrates, that in respect of wisdom he is really worthless." (Plato)

I feel strongly connected to this passage, firstly because I read, listen and recite its premise several times per day. In my own life I have experienced being puffed up in the glamour of discourse, my own and otherwise, only to beckon the wrath of The Abaser. As a result I've learned to quickly exhale when unjustly puffed.

Journal Journal: Posting Quotes

I'm going to start regulary posting quotes from things I'm currently reading, mostly literature, however it could include a movie or song. I may even include a little blurb to get the comments started... that is if anyone finds the things I post interesting.

Databases

Journal Journal: Considering Going Back to Oracle...

After hearing NYUs plans to restructure the Applications Development Program in the Fall 2006, I was wondering if I should go back to Oracle. I have worked on a few Oracle projects and did some training for an Oracle Certification with a company called Smartechs.org but I didn't really dig the DBA-thing. Now that programming (Java, etc.) is looking bleek maybe I should think about bus

Education

Journal Journal: Y10.0702-001 Database Design

Well, this is probably the most boring class I will have this year... uh, well let me take that back. I had a VB class last semester. This course is basically about advanced Data-Modeling, and the principles of database designs for business. Also, the prof. assured us that the course would be universal so using MySQL or OpenOffice will be ok? I have no intention of installing Personal oracle or anything like that on my laptop... in fact OOo should work fine for this course right?

Journal Journal: KEEFA HALUK? ZEIN AL-HAMDULILLAH! 6

I'm sitting in the computer lab at Tisch Hall and I am just thinking, "Gee... I am paying a lot of money for this school. I hope it all pays off." But what if it doesn't, I have heard and seen so many people that go through college and have all the high ambitions then get out and end up in a sucky job that they hate and never really go where they want to in life. I'm not your ordinary college student, I'm not a kid, I am 29 years old with a

Star Wars Prequels

Journal Journal: Jar Jar: What Were They Thinking?

Recently, I read an article that is relatively old, however it had some striking points about Star Wars prequel's Jar Jar that I found interesting. When first introduced to Jar Jar in Episode I, I felt something strange and bothersome about him as a character... it wasn't hard to see through the alien's costuming and match certain resemblances. For example, Jar Jar's quirky english is very similar to West In

Music

Journal Journal: Samira Said (Sayeed)

I have been listening to alot of arabic music lately. I know most of the people that may read this journal have never heard popular arabic music but it is really good stuff. My favorite artist is Samira Said, she is from Morocco and not only is she beautiful *whoa*, but her voice is like angelic, truly angelic. I love her voice... just remember check out Samira Said the next time you're in your local music store's world section.

Education

Journal Journal: My Career Evaluation: Just What I Suspected

I recently took a quiz to determine the major I should be... and the result was pretty good! I think it is a pretty accurate description: I am an Information Systems Major concentrating on Application Development and a Linguistics Minor w/ emphasis on Arabic. Obviously I love to write and in my leisure-time I read religious and philosphical text and these were my results:

Journal Journal: QuickTime Vulnerabilites

A number of vulnerabilites were discovered in Apple's Quicktime Media Player product. The National Cyber Alert System reported that these vulnerabilites affect Apple Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows XP and 2000. To correct several vulnerabilites Apple has released QuickTime 7.0.4, however the impacts of these vulnerabilities are *critical* and include execution of arbitrary code and possible DoS attacks.

Journal Journal: Class Selection For 2nd Semester @ NYU 2

I am writing this as if someone other than myself actually cares... Anyway, I met with TSC my academic advisor and we narrowed down some choices and decided on a specific strategy. The first item is that NYU's McGhee School of Professional Studies is redeveloping its Application Development concentration in the Information Systems program. So I am going to hold off on selecting anymore classes from my concentration until NYU announces the changes in the program during the Fall of 2006. As a r

Journal Journal: 2nd Semester Registration @ NYU 1

The last semester was so troubling that I am embarrassed at the final results. I was sick and hospitalized for nearly the 1/3 of the semester and as a result I ended up with an A, C+ and an incomplete. This is very disappointing for a straight-A student. Now my GPA has gone from a 3.89 to a 3.64.; I am terribly vexed. I want to take some easy classes to raise my GPA back up but I really need to start working on my concentration (Application Development). There are open seats in a Java I clas
