Comment Was nice once (Score 5, Interesting) 550

I gave a good honest exit interview when i left my first fulltime software job.. Wasnt a asshole, and kept it professional, mixed in what i didnt like and what i thought they did real well. The company has hired me back 3 times. Did the same thing at all 4 exit interviews, and maybe if i ever need a job again (with this market one never knows) i will get hired back, and that is worth a lot to me personally. But theres been a couple other places i burned the bridge down from shore to shore, not even a splinter left. Assholes had it coming....and i delivered.

Comment Or just use Timed Lights (Score 1) 299

When I lived in Detroit, all the major roads had lights timed for the speed limit..so we could drive miles without a red light, once you got going "in" the cycle. so at most one red light and then all green. worked great! During peak rush hour you had to make sure you stayed in the pack, but at midnight, coming home from the airport or gentlemen clubs...it was smooth sailing. BTW lights timed for 45mph...are also timed for 90. -KI

Id like to see a bird who could/would choke on a case for an iphone. Itd be a big un. Maybe it landed next to my verizon phone, which did end up in a ditch one day. Switched to nextel and was happy until Sprint got a hold of them. so now the phone karma gods are getting their revenge. Cant switch to verizon again, hate em. AT&T isnt a good choice, capped, limited. Virgin Mobile? maybe.

Back on topic...class action lawsuits work most of the time, as a deterrent to future business practices. Of course Apple might have 300mil to throw around, but i doubt they make the SAME mistake again.

Progressive sent me one back in the early 2000's. Not at my request. It came with a letter that said basically "Plug this in, and we will use your excellant driving abilities to give you up to 25% discount on your current rate." I sent it back in the postage paid envelope. I know my kind of driving would probably raise my rates. Funny to see them now offering it again. It also tracked everywhere I went, and when i went. No thanx, ill keep my privacy and pay more. If someone else wants to "save" 25%, go ahead and use it. I figured by now it would be mandatory to have it installed to get insurance, im sure that day is still coming.

Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive.

My first "big" upgrade was a "blazing" 300 baud modem for my C64. Then a hard disk to replace my cassette storage device. Comment linked lists still common (Score 1) 672

A few weeks ago in a tech iv (phone) with a "vice president of software engineering" I was asked "How would you find the middle of a linked list, using the most efficient method." It was for a web development position, for a small company who does medical instruments. I must admit from the beginning the guy was arrogant as hell, dropping his title on me no less then 3 times in the first minute, but i tried my best to stay focused and keep iv. My answer was "Why would i ever use a linked list? in 15 years of software development, hardware integration, mixed with web apps, etc. I have never used a linked list for anything" I have heard about linked list in university, many years ago, and did some stuff with them in a class once, but never in industry. I called the shop back and told them i wouldnt take the contract if they did offer me it, a IV is a screening process for the interviewee as well..sometime u just know it will be hell working for someone like the arrogant ass.

anyone else use linked lists on a regular basis?

meh. i rarely RTFA to be honest. Personally the thread comments are the news for nerds im after anyways. I get more good info/explanations and lots of good sites and links from the comments on here. And i dont have to worry about /. effect, pay walls, or getting pissed when i waste time reading some of the garbage FA's or stupid fucking ad's passed off as FA. An as another poster pointed out, FB TOS and conditions say they can do what they want.
