Same here. I've been watching this story and haven't heard anything from Mr. Cooper. Even when I reached out a month ago. I had the feeling that the breach was far worse then they had disclosed. I have already frozen all of my credit reports. I learned my lesson years ago to never allow utilities or mortgage holders automatic withdrawal access to your bank account because they will ALWAYS betray that trust.

At this point I'm very interested in being a class representative for my state when the class action suit is announced.

Comment Lock down your credit reports (Score 1) 30

My wife and I had to lock down our credit reports with the bureaus in 2020 when we sold our house and someone tried to use our address as a drop for unemployment benefits and other financial applications. We fortunately had a mail hold we placed the week before the house hit the market so we were able to intercept everything that came in. The state unemployment agency didn't give a damn and just told us to destroy the cards. They didn't even want to know the names of the people who had been compromised. When credit applications started coming in for our names, we reported the identity theft and that's when we locked our reports. The bureaus don't make it easy to navigate their sites to find how to do that. It needs to change.

Unfortunately, our mortgage is with Mr. Cooper. At least our reports are still locked down because these guys couldn't even properly calculate the escrow amount needed to cover taxes so now we have to make up the shortfall over the next year since it took them most of the year to fix the issue.

Until holders of personal data in the Insurance and Financial industries start facing serious punitive damages for failing to secure customer data because they are so desparate to share it, this issue isn't going away. I've worked in IT departments for both industries and the corners executives cut are appalling.

HD telling the guy that the "cost", IE what they'll attempt to charge you if you don't return or destroy the item, is $3.5k is probably actually true.

It absolutely was true. I realize they can probably get it for less than $3500, but the rental agreement stated that's what I would have to pay them if I ruined or lost it.

The just over $50 that included taxes I paid for 4 hours of use was far more economical than paying a couple grand for a tool that I would never likely need again. But yeah, hand tools are usually much cheaper just to buy outright. I needed to use a chainsaw to finish cutting up a downed tree and the 18V battery powered one we purchased has already paid for itself instead or renting a 2-stroke that's beat to hell.

Not surprising. I haven't rented a car in a couple years, but I did need to rent a special tool from Home Depot. I needed a 10 foot sheet metal brake to bend some aluminum flashing to repair my garage. I rented the tool for 4 hours, transported it home, assembled it, did my work, disassembled it, and transported it back. I was 10 minutes over my 4 hour window because of holiday traffic and road closures, but the guys at the counter cut me a break. I found out that they were just thrilled to get the tool back in one piece or even get it back period. The brake I used cost around $3500 dollars and the rental counter told me that was the third one they replaced in 6 months.

If you don't have a full-time team of lawyers and recovery goons, I can't image renting your car out to someone is a good idea.

Need a .Net programmer? They're 1 phone call and a handful of visa forms away. Same for a C#, C++, SQL, you name it.

No. No they're not. What has been keeping me employed the past few years since COVID is picking up the shit-shows the H1Bs are failing miserably at. I've been working from home 100% for the last 3 years and the question on whether or not I'm delivering what is asked of me has never needed to be asked. The last guy one of our DBAs interviewed "lip-synced" his video interview. The interviewee had another person in an earphone answering questions and our clue was the timing was just off on the guy's responses and his lips were moving like a bad Kung-Fu movie dub. The question that was asked that made him panic and not be able to answer? "What color is your shirt?".

We had a team of 3 or 4 H1Bs try to implement a project and delivered almost nothing for 3 months. The lead manager asked my coworker and I to take a look at it and give him an assessment. We did better than that. We demonstrated a Proof of Concept of the promised deliverables a week later. The guys who were doing the work previously had no idea what they were doing.

The H1B program has been a mess for almost 25 years now, starting with the .com boom. The lock-in and abuse from Wipro and Tata Group needs to end.
