Comment Re: Microsoft got nailed to the wall for less (Score 1) 162

Ahh, but you are forgetting about the whole Internet Explorer Windows 98 debacle. It's not that the OS is a monopoly, it's that the software packages that came standard were anti-competitive. Namely, they were putting Netscape out of business at the time.. Not allowing someone access to your OS is one thing, but not allowing free commerce on that OS is anti-competitive. I think if the same judges look at this that looked at the microsoft case, they would find against Apple.

Submission + - Facebook algorithm found to 'actively promote' Holocaust denial (theguardian.com)

AmiMoJo writes: Facebook’s algorithm “actively promotes” Holocaust denial content according to an analysis that will increase pressure on the social media giant to remove antisemitic content relating to the Nazi genocide. An investigation by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), a UK-based counter-extremist organisation, found that typing “holocaust” in the Facebook search function brought up suggestions for denial pages, which in turn recommended links to publishers which sell revisionist and denial literature, as well as pages dedicated to the notorious British Holocaust denier David Irving.

Last Wednesday Facebook announced it was banning conspiracy theories about Jewish people “controlling the world”. However, it has been unwilling to categorise Holocaust denial as a form of hate speech.

Submission + - SPAM: Amazon Liable For Defective Third-Party Products Rules CA Appellate Court

schwit1 writes: The ruling has moved Amazon in with other retailers who face the same liability risk when selling online, as per state product liability law. Thursday’s decision also overturned the previous state Superior Court ruling in San Diego, who had been found to have been a “service provider” instead of a “retailer” and therefore not being responsible for liability.

The plaintiff of the case, Angela Bolger, had bought a laptop battery off of Amazon from a seller called “E-Life”, the working name for Hong Kong battery seller Lenoge Technology. Bolger said that the battery had burst into flames when used, burning her arms, legs, and feet, as well as damaging her laptop.

Bolger’s lawyer, Jeremy Robinson, also said a more succinct statement after the ruling on Thursday, noting that “It is impossible to overstate the magnitude of this ruling. Consumers across the nation will feel the impact of this.”

California’s ruling may effect other ruling’s nationwide, including suits in Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

Submission + - China passes US as world's top natural sciences researcher (nikkei.com)

AmiMoJo writes: China has outstripped the U.S. in putting out research papers in the natural sciences, data released Friday shows, further illustrating its emerging dominance in scientific investigation. China now owns the top share of scientific papers at 19.9%, while the U.S. comes in second at 18.3%. These statistics are based on the number of peer-reviewed papers published in scientific journals. Between 2016 and 2018, China published an average of 305,927 papers, topping the 281,487 papers released by the U.S. Germany ranks third at 67,041 papers, equating to a 4.4% share.

I'd like to see proof that your epidemic exists and is because of covid. The death rate for children is infinitesimal. If your bar is zero deaths than you should know you're probably killing more children keeping them in lockdown.

Here is a local news source talking about it. Covid or not, it is a new thing that is happening at the same time as covid. https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/...

Eh, this is an opinion piece, here is a peer reviewed study on it. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/... It states that in a group of 600 people, there was no measurable change in severity of covid between people who took it and people who didn't. Don't pick me apart, read the study and pick that apart. But I will take this study with real people over conjecture and anecdotal evidence.

This is a guy from spain, and most of his stuff makes no sense to me, or any american, I would bet. they said the inverted pink triangle is anti-fa gay. I mean, in the sense that gay people get them to bring light to the fact that gay people were sent to concentration camps and were tatted with a pink triangle. But that isn't a symbol of the movement, it is just bringing light to the evils of an old movement. Like getting the twin towers tatted on your back if your brother died in the wreck.
