Snowden did the right thing for all the enemies of America and we all benefited from it, so we all owe him a favor.

He only helped the enemies of the US, such as Russia, China, and entities like ISIS. The sooner he/his helpers can face justice in a US court (and convicted with the Mt. Everest of evidence), the sooner America is done a favor.

On the other hand, such unauthorized releases of material, including everything from the Intercept, has only served to cause harm.

Through their actions, they are indirectly complicit in aiding/abetting groups like ISIS, in addition to directly being complicit in aiding hostile countries like Russia and China. The blood is on all of their hands - nothing short of turning themselves in to face justice will wash it off.

Of course, you'd rather modbomb the Painful Truth than acknowledge their transgressions.

This (Uber/Lyft) is a vast improvement to the current system allowing for immediate feedback on QOS. If a customer or driver is an asshole, they won't be around much, making it better for both.

Whether it is the surge pricing in the middle of a disaster, being at the mercy of driver ratings, or otherwise trying to dodge insurance laws, Uber (and similar services) lose to more conventional options.

Europe and China Will Team Up For a Robotic Space Mission 39

Taco Cowboy writes with this excerpt from Space.com: On Monday (Jan. 19), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the European Space Agency (ESA) issued a call for proposals for a robotic space mission that the two organizations will develop jointly. "The goal of the present Call is to define a scientific space mission to be implemented by ESA and CAS as a cooperative endeavor between the European and Chinese scientific communities," ESA officials wrote in a statement Monday. "The mission selected as an outcome of the present Joint Call will follow a collaborative approach through all the phases: study, definition, implementation, operations and scientific exploitation." The call envisions a low-budget mission, saying that ESA and CAS are each prepared to contribute about 53 million euros (U.S. $61.5 million at current exchange rates). The spacecraft must weigh less than 661 lbs. (300 kilograms) at launch and be designed to operate for at least two to three years, ESA officials wrote in the call for proposals. All proposals are due by March 16, and the peer-review process will start in April. Mission selection is expected to occur in late 2015, followed by six years of development, with a launch in 2021.

If manufacturers such as Ford are faking cylinders, then it shouldn't be surprising to see them faking engine notes. They're trying to please environmentalists by cutting down the engine; they're using a turbocharger and audio system in an dishonest attempt to please the customer. When said customer actually tries to *use* the engine, they only see how it can't match their expectations.

It might cut it for the granola-eating, Aspen-attending environmentalist with deep pockets, for they can buy whatever they please. On the other hand, the majority of us really don't have much choice in the matter. Perhaps if the environmentalists were kicked out of auto design and CAFE was abolished, we wouldn't have to wonder if our engine's faking it.

When pressing the pedal, a full-displacement engine should be the sole source of engine noise - not a tuned speaker nor a turbocharger.
