The target for NZ is Rattus Rattus and the Brushtail possum, they are the main predators that raid nests for both eggs and nestlings. The technique has so far been tested in mice but they are not the first concern. Stoats, weasels, feral cats are all issues in NZ but the rats and possums are the big targets since they don't just go after adult birds. Hedgehogs have been seen raiding eggs, but they prefer slugs and the population is small so they might be able to live alongside the native species with no major impact.
Another big problem is actually German Wasps, they eat the honeydew that the birds need, significantly harming breeding success.

FBI Agreed To Destroy Laptops of Clinton Aides With Immunity Deal, Sources Say (foxnews.com) 500

An anonymous Slashdot reader quotes a report from Fox News: Immunity deals for two top Hillary Clinton aides included a side arrangement obliging the FBI to destroy their laptops after reviewing the devices, House Judiciary Committee sources told Fox News on Monday. Sources said the arrangement with former Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills and ex-campaign staffer Heather Samuelson also limited the search to no later than Jan. 31, 2015. This meant investigators could not review documents for the period after the email server became public -- in turn preventing the bureau from discovering if there was any evidence of obstruction of justice, sources said. The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee fired off a letter Monday to Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking why the DOJ and FBI agreed to the restrictive terms, including that the FBI would destroy the laptops after finishing the search. The immunity deals for Mills and Samuelson, made as part of the FBI's probe into Clinton's use of a private email server when she served as secretary of state, apparently included a series of "side agreements" that were negotiated by Samuelson and Mills' attorney Beth Wilkinson. The side deals were agreed to on June 10, less than a month before FBI Director James Comey announced that the agency would recommend no charges be brought against Clinton or her staff. Judiciary Committee aids told FoxNews.com that the destruction of the laptops is particularly troubling as it means that the computers could not be used as evidence in future legal proceedings, should new information or circumstances arise.

When you come from a lower income you are quite possibly the first and only person from your family to go to University, or maybe even finish high school. Even after doing well in High School you have no clue what to expect, and no reference points. The idea that even as a graduate you may be paid more than your parents combined is hard to get your head around for doing something you enjoy studying.
Having to do part time work to cover the costs your parent cannot doesn't help, but more than anything else there is the nagging doubt that you shouldn't be there and should go do manual labour and retail like your family was raised to do. You wonder when you will get caught and told to go back where you came from, so you tend to keep your head down and not make best use of the support systems the Uni already has in place for everybody.

You just got to be a stubborn bastard and keep at it, but any encouragement does go a long way since you just don't know how the system works.

While Google and a Swiss startup have been working on contact lenses to cure medical diseases, Samsung's lenses are for experimenting with new methods of delivering augmented reality interfaces/data.

Submission + - Red dwarfs could have intelligent life-harboring planets in orbit (dispatchtribunal.com)

hypnosec writes: Red dwarfs have been one of the most sidelined celestial objects as far as search of intelligent extraterrestrials is concerned because astronomers have long believed that conditions around these old stars is not conducive for life. However, the SETI Institute now believes that there is a possibility that intelligent aliens may have evolved on planets orbiting red dwarfs and if they are present, they are an ideal choice to look for radio signals transmitted by these aliens. The Institute has announced its intentions of expanding the search for intelligent extraterrestrials by incorporating area in the vicinity of 20,000 red dwarf stars.
