Presumably the actual rocket engineers at SpaceX can also run Kerbal...
Because that would require even more fuel and an even bigger rocket.
This should be commons sense but the longer you run the motor the more fuel it consumes.
Yes, I already mentioned that it's predicated on them having a massive amount of fuel.
You (and apparently a few others) see only the problems but you ignore that it would also get you somewhere faster (depending how you did it), so that balances out the extra fuel to some extent.
It also offsets the extra cost through a much simpler spaceship design, not having to have some complex rotating portion of the spaceship that cannot fail (or has to have redundancy built in).
You also only need to provide fuel for a one way trip, or if you plan on coming back don't worry about providing enough thrust for gravity on the return trip.

If anyone on earth doesn't give a damn what sea levels are, and can engineer to work around them - it is the Dutch. We are currently talking about around two feet over 200 years, hardly an issue for existing systems they have in place, much less whatever technology is to be had over 200 years time...
If you are talking about a huge rocket, and providing a massive amount of fuel anyway - then why not make use of that to provide constant thrust the entire journey? You can use thrust most of the way to accelerate, then turn around and use the thrust to decelerate. It uses more fuel but it solves the gravity issue.
You don't even have to provide 1G, just 0.4G or so to acclimate the people to Martian gravity - you could probably get away with less really as long as the people exercised regularly.
It's also a much more "natural" gravity than centripetal force and so will not make as many people sick.

I think what they are really trying to do is to get these 10k girls some equivalent to that "informal experience" the boys have... but I don't see how you can ever really come up with something similar delivered by external pressure, rather than innate desire to learn.
Getting more girls into the coding pipeline early would seem to be more a matter of figuring out ways ad reasons that would naturally draw girls to start learning to code in the same way boys do.
When my daughter's guidance councilor recommended that she do the pre-med requirements in college and go to medical school, I rejoiced.
You rejoiced that she probably now will not join and industry with the greatest ability at any point in history to have someone work on what they want, with who they want. Sad.

Let me take a guess - you are in California, right? Because I've seen that there, but pretty much no-where else. Businesses do not have time for such people as they are inherently unproductive.
And again, you can choose who you work with so simply do not work with those people. From what I have seen over decades, they are a tiny minority of the actual people you can work with.

What makes you think that field is not a thousand times worse than the tiny world of problems you know?
What makes you think the job will suck less, not more, when the stress of being a doctor is so incredibly high? What makes you think she will not be living under the cloud of med school debt for five decades as the amount of money doctors makes declines? Yes, if there's one thing professional programmers (and their PHBs) love, it's code that's almost certain to work.
The reason that's OK for everyone is that it's also "Almost Certain" to work in the original place also...
It's just that each placement has different values and flavors of "Almost".
Since it's so easy to replace the drive in the first place, this seem like kind of non-news... it will be helpful for some non-technical people but most people are probably not coming close to filling up the drives Sony currently ships with.

I am also strongly against the AGW madness to "do something", because I can see how none of it is based on science, only the "truthiness" flavor or science.
I can see the direction it is heading with terrible ideas that basically end in terraforming our own perfectly working Earth ecosystem.
I can also see everyone ignoring the only real danger there is to humanity, and that is an ice age - not a mild warming that improves agriculture and does little else.
I can see people distort natural changes in climate over time into terrible dangers for personal and political gain. In the end I suppose that matters little, it's just a slightly different monkey on the top of the hill at the end of the day, but the part of me that dislikes con men is unhappy to see such a large con fool so many rubes until they loose much before catching on.
If people actually cared, they would wake up and call out the charlatans. If the Pope's paper has that effect truly, it will be good though not the direction he intended.
