TorrentFreak reports that the girl’s home was raided after local anti-piracy group CIAPC determined copyrighted files had been downloaded illegally at her residence. Her father, the Internet service account holder, was contacted by CIAPC, which demanded that he pay a 600 euro fine and sign a non-disclosure agreement to settle the matter. Submission + - A New Methode to Solve Linear Equations (wavewatching.net)

quax writes: Solving linear equations is one of the most common mathematical problems, and it is a fairly easy one that everybody learns to work in school. Surprisingly, a new algorithm has been found that improves over established methods within the domain of finite fields.

This algorithm is poised to find widespread use in applications as diverse as cryptography and quantum error correction.

The article provides links to the original paper and illustrates the concept of finite fields.

Submission + - How to run OSX in a virtual machine? (osx86project.org)

tonyt3 writes: "It is straightforward to run Windows or Linux on a Mac, because there are several ways — and mostwork well. There seems to be no similar way to do the reverse: run Mac OSX on a virtual machine under Windows or Linux. Of course there is the Hackintosh series of methods, and some people have used VirtualBox. But these seem to require serious hacking of the system, which is very different from running Windows via Parallels. Is this a technical problem? or is it a legal problem? Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
tony"
