Journal Journal: Been gone a long time

I've been reading back on some of these journals I've written and realised how much of a fool I've been so far in my life. It's not hard to see where I've fucked up, dropped the ball or just plain not followed through.

Oh the fuck well. Don't care. Next?

Comment yup. (Score 1) 2

i'm not anti-vegetarian, just anti-manufactured-foods. i think if someone wants to/needs to not eat meat, that's a choice that each person makes for himself/herself. But eating food that's mostly 'binder' and 'filler' -- whether meat based or vegetable based isn't a good idea. that's my $0.02

Journal Journal: How Green is that iPhone?

After one week in the market, nobody knows yet how green the iPhone is. Not a single word from Apple about any green features. Nothing about reducing toxic chemicals or encouraging recycling for old phones dumped for the iPhone. Due to the successful Green my Apple campaign Steve claimed: "Apple is ahead of, or will soon be ahead of, most of its competitors" on environmental issues. But the iPhone appears far beh

Submission + - How do you get the best value building a PC?

ObiWanStevobi writes: Although I should ask before hand, I recently ordered everything I need to build a new PC. The high points of the system are a 3.2 Pentium D, ASUS ATX SLI Ready Motherboard, SLI Ready power supply, and GeForce 8500 Graphics card. I also added a DVDRW, DVDROM/CDRW combo drive, 250 Gig Seagate HD, 2 Gigs Kingston RAM, and a Wireless NIC. All of this in an ATX Mid Tower. Grand Total of ~$600. The best part is that I don't have Vista pre-installed.

Now this is not a great machine by current standards, but it is alot more bang for the buck than you can get from a manufacturer. I used TigerDirect and NewEgg to get all the hardware. Those are the sites I typically use at work and have been pretty reliable for me. But what I wonder is what everyone else is using to build their PCs. Where are you getting the most value these days?

Anyone have any particularly great machines they put together for much less than you would expect? What are your favorite discount hardware sites, or any to stay away from?

Submission + - Arguments for/against IT Managers getting an MBA

Esther Schindler writes: "The pressure is on IT leaders to prove their business savvy, and job postings for CIOs and other top-of-the-heap positions commonly ask for an MBA. But do you really need one to be an effective CIO? IT professionals worry that not having an MBA will eliminate them from job opportunities and severely limit their prospects for career growth. But many IT professionals remain resistant because earning the degree requires so much time and money—not to mention the concern that it'll turn them into a PHB. In Should You Get an MBA?, CIO Magazine assembled 10 arguments for getting an MBA and 6 reasons not to do so. Which do you think are more compelling?"

Journal Journal: Writing: Lyanissa and Lyriin

Context: I woke up from a dream on Monday morning and wrote this. Warning: Rough draft. Warning: minimally edited.

There is morre to the story that follows, I can feel it. I just need to get my fingers on the keyboard for an hour or two in a quiet time.

Journal Journal: A slight misunderstanding... 4

So Ben & I were out to dinner last night, and he asked the waitress "What three cheeses are in the three cheese lasagna?"

The waitress says "Um... Mozzarella, American, and ... ummm... I can't think of the third one."

She goes wandering off and asks another member of the waitstaff about 10 feet away, who says "Mozzarella and Parmesan on top, ricotta in the lasagna."

Journal Journal: Good news, everyone! 10

Well, good news for me, at least. We set a "you have to get out of our house" date for my sister-in-law. 5 months is a bit long to expect someone to feed & house you for free, and it will be 6 months by the time she leaves. It's probably 2 months too late for us to part amicably, but at this point, the goal is to get her the hell out of my house. It was this IM conversation that made me realize how annoyed Ben was with her, and he's her brother.

"Wind it up", Barenaked Ladies

Ah, the double entendre from the 'Ladies. I've been listening to them on the commute.

The first week of the new shift has been awesome. I do less. I get paid more. And the crew I work with is insane. Tonight's score: me 2, rich 1, stu 0, scoot 1.

Journal Journal: Movie: Little Miss Sunshine 9

We don't generally go to movies. We've got other things going on, for the most part, and for the rest of it, dropping $20 to see parts of a movie (with children shrieking, people yakking through the film, cellphones ringing, etc.) that may or may not be worth seeing doesn't really appeal.

That aside, GO SEE LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. GO NOW. Stop reading this JE and go.

Still alive.

Work: changing shifts to gain the 15% shift diff mid-october. 15% more for doing 40% less... ok. can do. Lappy comes along for the ride.

Birthday: last wednesday. really good. new camera. See it on dA if you're interested. It rocks. The tea rocks as well. And the new sunglasses, well, they rock, too. Oh, and the new BNL album... doesn't rock, it's more mellow.

Journal Journal: Argh. Hacked. 7

Archive.org to the rescue. Stupid script kiddies hit my crazymonkeycreations site, and a friend's site, too. replaced all our index.php's.

Dumbasses.

It does little to improve my mood today.

I spent an hour or so working on my knitblog; changing the 'look', writing a shortened version of how i feel about the explosion. I'm tired now.

Today, I've taken my vitamin, my st johns wort, and a claritin. Something's gotta give.

Off to zap my leftovers.
