Comment Re:Al Gore says... (Score 1) 209

Pot shots? The whole world was supposed to warm exponentially and all the sea ice was supposed to have melted by now. Al Gore was horribly wrong. There hasn't been significant warming in a decade. The "deniers" have been largely correct. And yet, the climate change promoters are just saying the models need to be adjusted. Al Gore is a buffoon.

Why release any data not associated with a wanted vehicle? On the other hand, it seems like it could do a great job finding wanted vehicles... Stolen cars, Amber Alerts, bail jumpers, and wanted felons.. Only when you use it for misdemeanor offenses does it seem to suggest a civil liberties problem. (Say you get pulled over.. turns out your tags was incorrectly reported stolen.. the issue is cleared up and your tags are cleared from the watch list.. probable cause and no real harm done... ) A little law and order targeting felons is something most people can support.

Comment It was a success (Score 2) 287

I can report that my wife's 7th and 8th grade science classes LOVED the day of code program. Many started out thinking it was impossible to do any coding.. and ended up making some great discoveries. All the kids wanted to stay in the class and "code" rather than go out an play and eat lunch. At least for my wife's school, it was a huge success and hopefully some of the kids will be drawn into a profession they love...

Who downloads and installs DDoS software then only runs it for one minute? Something is fishy.

Was his (second) biggest mistake admitting that he downloaded and used the software, rather than deny and let them try to prove it wasn't a hacker who tapped into his home network?

Interesting corollary is to those who use bittorrent for illegal purposes.. at some point a lawyer and judge can come in and garnish years of your earned wages.

Use standard cable trays.. but spray paint them some hip color that works with your designer... gold, silver, metallic blue, or whatever.. Lots of great colors to choose from. Whether £10-20m is net or gross... its still a pretty paltry sum if they're being showcased as an example of "pirating leads to success". Iron Maiden has had years to build their brand and they started before piracy was as prevalent--so they rightfully should be earning royalties and income from earlier investments. Unfortunately this model doesn't work for 99% of the musicians who don't have a large bankroll from earlier times.

I've been using TaxAct.com for 4+ years for personal taxes and it is fantastic. Super cheap and reliable.. All information from previous years is stored on their servers so each year it gets easier to file. Unlike healthcare.gov, I trust their site, it works, is easy to use, cheaper than anything else, and they didn't the taxpayers a half billion dollars on the rollout.

You can't see how this law will exacerbate outsourcing, downsizing, layoffs and massively increase the federal government? Retirees and the poor have had Medicaid and Medicare and still will... but Obamacare has done nothing to reduce the cost of healthcare such as tort reform to reduce malpractice insurance. And yes, Obamacare will make it that much harder to be an independent worker or small business owner.

Comment Re:Furloughed workers (Score 5, Insightful) 346

That is true, but in this instance, this was a no-bid contract. And for hundreds of millions of dollars (do you realize how many programmer hours that buys?!) this is a fiasco. Just wait until it starts working and healthy working people realize how much they're going to have to spend to subsidize all the lower-income and non-workers. This is going to be a spectacular disaster.
