Comment College wasn't an option for some (Score 2) 655

For many of the older people in this field college was not an option. Some of them "fell into" the job because they "knew computers".

I have a AAS degree from a two year school because IT related studies were not offered at the 4 year schools. In fact, I was bluntly told by a department head of a four year school: if you want to learn networking then go to a two year school. So I did. Best decision ever. No college debt and got a job right out of school.

Serious question: Who pays the bill then? Where does the money come from to treat these people?

I'm not a heartless bastard. These are questions that nobody can answer and nobody can agree on.

It wasn't Bill Clinton's policy to spend his grandchildren's earnings either. He left office with the budget in balance.

It was George W. Bush's policy to spend that surplus on tax breaks for his billionaire friends, and then spend $3 trillion for a war in Iraq for the purpose of (what was it again?), most of which went to his no-bid contractors like Halliburton. Bush left us in debt that your grandchildren will be paying for.

The Tea Party is funded by the same loonies that got those no-bid contracts.

Bullshit. Clinton and the GOP Congress never had a surplus. It was *projected* but never realized. The US has had a deficit every year I've been alive and the debt has grown each year that I've been alive.

I've been out of the IT industry for a while, but is there any product that works like BlackBerry's Enterprise Serve (suite) for Android / iPhone / Windows Phone?

No and it is sad. There's nothing out there that comes even close to BES. Policy management on iOS, Android and Windows Phone is a joke. I struggle to keep my company's information private, but it's impossible. Once an iOS or Android phone has access to my company's ActiveSync then my company has no control over how that data is handled.

We're currently trying to use XenMobile, but it doesn't work either. I try to block access to iCloud. But then the employees can't backup their personal data. Very frustrating!

If someone has an alternative to BES then please speak up.

Will it crash Exchange servers like 6.1 did?

I know a lot of companies are telling employees to *not* upgrade to 7 until testing has been done. Of course, since security is so lax with iOS there's nothing that companies can do to actually enforce that policy. Unlike other real mobile OS's out there.

Seems like the liberals can't quite get this straight. Stimulus, Obamacare, IT services tax, etc... I guess Pelosi *was* right after all - we have to pass it so we can find out what is in it.

Why's that? My brother is self employed and his insurance premiums have so far doubled under the "affordable care act". I don't know mine exactly only because I'm under a group policy through work, though with the numbers they post for what my insurance is worth, that's gone up by roughly $1000 a year and I'm single, early 30s, non-smoker, and at 5 foot 10 and 170 lbs, not exactly obese. As another data point, I'm currently working on my masters, and we are automatically enrolled in the campus health insurance plan and have to waive it. It was $798 PER SEMESTER! And it's not what I'd call great coverage. When I did my undergrad it was like 200 a semester, and I graduated in 2006. Not like it was eons ago.

I'd say calling obamacare a cluster is quite accurate so far. Seriously, can anybody come forward and say that their insurance premiums are cheaper now? I heard that the minimum coverage in cali was estimated to be something like 340 a month for a family of 4. Thats pretty much a BMW car payment. Not what I call affordable.

$798 for 15 weeks? I'd take that in a heartbeat. My employer's plan costs me $2,500 for that same time period.
