Comment Re:Didn't GE have a similar management philosophy? (Score 1) 397

Nope. I did a load of work with GE as a consultant and nothing in Six Sigma was related to firing bottom 10%. That was more in the earlier days when Jack W fired a bunch of people. Some parts of GE, like Capital, were like that, but the industrial and medical divisions were pretty OK on the people management.

Urm, if, as it sounds, you use your computer a lot for work, then why not get another screen and put it vertically?
Or invest in a swivel arm. I have two big screens on such, hooked up to a docking station for my laptop.
It's an amazing boost in both comfort and productivity.

I drive an old Mercedes, with mechanical fuel injection and well...mechanical everything.
The active safety is good, (I've upgraded the brakes and suspension) and Merc were among the first to design-in crumple zones, so passive not too bad.
OK, I've no airbags...

Not being a nutty survivalist, just like having a car where I can fix everything myself, and no fucker with an EMP device, or anything else for that matter, is going to stop me.

Cost over the years (including fuel?), less than replacing it regularly with something "better".

Nobody serious, intelligent and - yes - educated would pretend that a meaningful post-grad qualification in either subject could be gained from reading just one book. Or even many books.
Having done both, I'm certain that the contributions of my lecturers and fellow-students were far more important than the texts.
And of course, just not technically..the social aspect is equally important.

Not really; plus of course the Lotus was/is also lighter and with worse passive safety.

But a far, far better car, in my opinion. (Tried one - have always loved straight sixes with their perfect primary and secondary balance).
At the time, eveyone focused on its power and top speed, taking for granted the usual Lotus magic on suspension and hence steering, braking and handling. I nearly bought the car I tested - it was £5K a few years ago. When I look at their proces now, I weep.

Wonder how much a Tesla will be worth in 20 years? Damn-all, I suspect.

Yes, we all know security is hard, but if you're a leading tech company with internal safeguards so lax that one breach can leak both user IDs and source code well, frankly, you're shit.

I think it would be best to have a firing squad composed of the jury that found someone guilty and imposed the death penalty. If you have the guts to condemn someone to die, I think you should also have the guts to execute that penalty.

There's a flaw in your argument.
I've shot and prepared animals for food for my family, never for sport.
It's not pleasant, but if you're hungry, you get through it.

I'd be prepared to shoot someone attacking me or my family with deadly intent, or in a wider sense my (imperfect) democratic country.

But this is emphatically not what the situation that jurors are in.
We've thankfully replaced lynch mobs with due process.
Your suggestion would end up with juries being packed with people wanting to legally kill.
