Comment Re:News Flash: Texas Hates Austin Too (Score 1) 222

The net flows between Austin and other Texas cities are interesting.

Cities where there's a net inflow to Austin: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Abilene, Laredo.

Cities where there's a net outflow from Austin: Killeen, College Station, Odessa, Waco, Longview.

The magnitude of the net outflow to Killeen is roughly 1/4 the size of the net inflow from Houston and 1/2 the size of the net inflow from Dallas.

Data from here.

Yes and no. You have a fair point about Apple choosing not to use the latest Intel offering. Then again, if I'm locked in to Mac, I mainly care about how the M1 compares to whatever Intel product it's replacing. And even if it makes sense to compare the M1 to Intel's latest, it totally doesn't make sense to compare across completely different operating systems.

If Intel compared the M1 Mac vs. a Windows system with an Intel chip that is an unbelievably shitty comparison. They should compare the M1 Mac to a similarly priced Intel Mac. For instance, compare the M1 13" MacBook Pro w/ 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM ($1700) with the Intel 13" MacBook Pro w/ 512GB SSD, 16 GB RAM ($1800).

Holding price constant, the correct comparison is apparently M1 vs. i5-1038NG7, not an i7-1185G7, which is what Intel used.

And, most importantly, test both chips under MacOS.

Eh, I'm not a moron. Compared to other SmartTV interfaces I've seen, I prefer Roku. ESPN's is the only app I've had problems with, except for Disney+ in the early days right after they released it. Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu all work fine. My only complaints are the lagginess and the poor ESPN performance, both of which I suspect are a factor of my device and not the Roku platform specifically. (i.e. if I were running the ESPN app on a dedicated Roku device as opposed to a SmartTV I suspect it would be fine).

I really like the Roku interface. That said, some sets that use it are so underpowered that it is noticeably laggy. The ESPN app is also garbage on my RokuTV, but fine on my kid's Xbox (using the same internet connection). I think it's a combination of the ESPN app being poorly written (for instance, Netflix and Hulu don't have the same problem while running on the same Roku device) and my (cheap) TV being sorely underpowered, which causes the app to drop frames.
