All new cars have stability control which uses braking by wire (at least in Europe, Canada, and the US). Over 90% of new cars have adaptive cruise control, so have forward-facing sensors already. The additional expense to do what's asked is not big.
But what I don't want is a system being stupid when I'm passing a vehicle and accelerating behind the one in front of me.
