As an analyst who works with data like this all the time, this drives me crazy. I immediately saw the issue with the state of California being considered "Blue" because it discounts all the "Red" voters who live here. It's beyond absurd to assume the majority of voters represents the majority of anything else or that the proportion made up by the minority isn't statistically significant.

That's not how this works. If the market was allowed to adjust based on supply and demand, initially prices would be lower which would drive some farmers out of business and then as supply reduced, the price would come back up again and surpass where it would have been with subsidies.

California hasn't tuned anything. It's utterly incompetent in all financial dealings as shown by this visualization. https://public.tableau.com/en-...

They simply get by on the strength of the private capitalism that occurs in the state despite lawmakers every attempt to stifle it.
