I've known several people that went and bought a Windows tablet only to find out that the tablet is running Windows 8 RT and they can't install any full Windows programs on it, only downloads from the bountiful Windows app store.

There's no rhyme or reason for Microsoft's numbering system. 3.11, 95, XP, 2000, Me, 7, 8, 10.... I think MS's biggest mistake with Windows 8 was showing people there are viable alternatives out there. I don't know if they'll come back from this one or not, if it wasn't for their stranglehold on the corporate environment, they'd have died off long ago.
