Submission + - NYT Now Admits the Authenticity of Material from Biden's Laptop (nytimes.com) 1

mi writes: Glenn Greenwald writes:

One of the most successful disinformation campaigns in modern American electoral history occurred in the weeks prior to the 2020 presidential election. On October 14, 2020 — less than three weeks before Americans were set to vote — the nation's oldest newspaper, The New York Post, began publishing a series of reports about the business dealings of the Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, in countries in which Biden, as Vice President, wielded considerable influence (including Ukraine and China) and would again if elected president.

The backlash against this reporting was immediate and intense, leading to suppression of the story by U.S. corporate media outlets and censorship of the story by leading Silicon Valley monopolies. The disinformation campaign against this reporting was led by the CIA's all-but-official spokesperson Natasha Bertrand (then of Politico, now with CNN), whose article on October 19 appeared under this headline: “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say.”

That was then. Yet, on March 16th, 2022 New York Times' article admitted (emphasis added):

People familiar with the investigation said prosecutors had examined emails between Mr. Biden, Mr. Archer and others about Burisma and other foreign business activity. Those emails were obtained by The New York Times from a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop. The email and others in the cache were authenticated by people familiar with them and with the investigation.

Submission + - SPAM: Patreon shuts down Ukrainian donations drive

mi writes: Following Twitter closing Ukrainian channels, the Save a Life in UA campaign — still linked to by multiple Ukrainian pages — has been closed, the fate of approximately $250K already donated uncertain.

No reason is given, the visitors only see the message, that "the page has been removed".

Patreon, GoFundMe, and Paypal have been arbitrarily shutting down fund-raising efforts before.

Submission + - Washington Post: "Freedom is a key component of White supremacy" (washingtonpost.com)

mi writes: The notion of “freedom” was historically and remains intertwined with Whiteness, as historian Tyler Stovall has argued. The belief that one’s entitlement to freedom is a key component of White supremacy. This explains why the Freedom Convoy members see themselves as entitled to freedom, no matter the public health consequences to those around them.

Submission + - Rutgers University bans unvaccinated from virtual classes (foxnews.com) 1

mi writes: A New Jersey student has said he is barred from taking classes at Rutgers University because he has not been vaccinated — even though he is only studying virtually from home.

He was locked out of his Rutgers email and related accounts, when he went to pay his tuition at the end of last month — and was told, that he needed to be vaccinated, even though he has no plans to attend in person.

Submission + - HCQ is no longer considered harmful (elsevierhealth.com)

mi writes: After President Trump suggested the use of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and Azithromycin to prevent and/or treat COVID-19 cases, the suggestion was denounced and ridiculed — including on Slashdot. Facebook, reportedly, went further and started removing postings mentioning the drugs as the possible treatment — to "prevent harm".

Now American Journal of Medicine confirms, that the cheap and widely-available treatments lower mortality of COVID-19 cases.

Submission + - The theory, that COVID-19 was made in the lab, is no longer considered"debunked" (politifact.com)

mi writes: As of May 17th, a fact-checking site, that has earlier claimed the theory of artificial origins of the COVID-19 to have been "debunked", no longer thinks so:

When this fact-check was first published in September 2020, PolitiFact’s sources included researchers who asserted the SARS-CoV-2 virus could not have been manipulated. That assertion is now more widely disputed. For that reason, we are removing this fact-check from our database pending a more thorough review.

Evidently, claims of having "debunked" it were premature, and what was presented as a fact, was merely an opinion.

Submission + - "American Rescue Plan" gives $3.5 billion to Bill Gates' "private" charity (congress.gov)

mi writes: Of the $3.75 billion to be made available to the Department of State, "not less than" $3.5 billion (93.3%) is to be handed to the supposedly private charity headquartered in Switzerland, that was established by Bill Gates:

(2) $3,750,000,000 to be made available to the Department of State to support programs for the prevention, treatment, and control of HIV/AIDS in order to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, including to mitigate the impact on such programs from coronavirus and support recovery from the impacts of the coronavirus, of which not less than $3,500,000,000 shall be for a United States contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria;

Submission + - A cephalopod passes "marshmallow" test (sciencealert.com) 2

mi writes: The marshmallow test, or Stanford marshmallow experiment, is pretty straightforward. A child is placed in a room with a marshmallow. They are told, if they can manage not to eat the marshmallow for 15 minutes, they'll get a second marshmallow, and be allowed to eat both.

Scientists showed that common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) can refrain from eating a meal of crab meat in the morning once they have learnt, dinner will be something they like much better — shrimp.

Submission + - Israel welcomes Ambassador from United Arab Emirates (breitbart.com)

mi writes: “The entire Israeli people welcomes you with joy. This will be your most important mission – to welcome the hands reaching out to you, to meet the Israeli people and to get to know them up close. Treaties are signed by leaders, but real, sustained peace is made between peoples, face to face,” — Israel's President told the envoy.

Submission + - Wikipedia co-founder is launching a non-partisan competitor (justthenews.com) 2

mi writes: A co-founder of Wikipedia is launching a competing website as a free-speech-friendly alternative to what he views as the increasingly monolithic left-wing bias of his former organization.

Last May, Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger wrote an op-ed on his personal website titled "Wikipedia is Badly Biased" claiming that Wikipedia's neutrality policy — known as "NPOV," or neutral point of view — "is dead."

Submission + - No one was killed by the Trump-supporters in Washington on January 6th (substack.com) 1

mi writes: The fire extinguisher story became vital to those intent on depicting the events of January 6th in the most violent and menacing light possible. Without Sicknick having his skull bashed in with a fire extinguisher, there were no deaths that day that could be attributed to deliberate violence by pro-Trump protesters.

Multiple highly-moderated posts cited this story on Slashdot too.

The problem with this story is that it is false in all respects.
