Comment Re:Unintended consequences (Score 2) 282

Being broke I'm just happy my state hasn't required emission testing, and now according to state website only 13 areas around 1 city will require it for new vehicles only. That's one sorta benefit for driving an old vehicle.

I still drive my 1995 Chevy S10 5 speed manual transmission everywhere the past 20 years although another old vehicle I used to have was a 1984 Camaro which I gave to my son. The good gas mileage on that truck has extremely helped with the high gas prices, the insurance only costs me $130 every 6 months for the minimum, and it's pretty easy to service myself with the occasional repairs or the odd alternator replacement has been fairy cheap for what it is. Damn good truck though, those late 80s to late 90s Chevy s10's short wheel base with the manual transmission those engines will probably last until Armageddon if kept serviced. ;-)

Hehe, this dude doesn't know that the Christian god of war was sent to annihilate all those other gods. It's pretty common knowledge... I mean it's right there in the Nag Hammadi texts, like even the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse ride with the heads of all the other fools that had ever claimed godhood hanging from their saddles. ;-P

Comment Would they still pause if Mars mission was manned? (Score 1) 13

Hypothetically of course...

Since this occurs every 2 years, what would happen if we had a manned mission on Mars? Would they still have trouble with video and/or voice communication or has there already been another solution worked out in this situation? Since I've read estimates from different sources like some older trip estimates from NASA to hypotheticals from Popular Science magazine/website that a manned mission to Mars could take up to 2 and a half years in total, with a 6 month travel time to and from Mars. With the conjunction occurring every 2 years I'm curious how they would solve the problem as I don't think they'd do what the article says or just power down or not send any communication during the entire duration of the conjunction if they were dealing with humans on Mars.

Plus adding super fast shutter speeds as a feature or a requirement will drastically increase the price range of these telescopes. I feel it would only help speed up the death of amateur astronomy. The light pollution is already killing it off as it is, but the way the original article sounds to me I feel it would only cause more harm faster by dramatically increasing the costs. Of course just an opinion, I admit I could be wrong, and in this case I hope I am.

Comment Being poor, I'll stick with my $15 heated seat. (Score 2) 73

I drive a 1995 Chevrolet s10 4 cylinder with manual transmission. One day at the hardware store I noticed they had a heated seat cover with built-in lumbar support & massage on sale for around $15 bucks. Which I honestly didn't expect it to last more than a month, but it's been about 4 years so far and still works great. ;-)

While the Southpark parody of BP was hilarious, I suspect the most that will happen to these companies will be a little slap on the wrists and if lucky, then maybe a short video. A video where their CEOs will be following the BP apology blueprint by making propaganda videos where they brag about their Chinese ESG scores, and point out all the good work they do before slipping in a limp wristed apology somewhere in the video.

As a reminder here's the original BP apology video:
