Journal bmetzler's Journal: Apologies Accepted 12

I've been reading through Apologies Accepted and some people really need some help. The amazing thing is that they all seem so sincere.

Consider this picture. How are we supposed to modify the electoral system to keep Republicans from winning? Give more electoral votes to Blue States? Not count all the votes in Red States? Recount votes in Red States until they are blue in the face?

At least the site provides chuckles during a long night.

  • That's right-- I'm sorry.

I'm sorry that most of the 48% of America that voted against Bush doesn't seem to have a grip on how our political system works. (It's likely that many of those that voted for Bush don't quite get it, either, but we don't hear them whining because their choice won...)

I'm sorry that so many people in the world don't bother to learn about the American election process works before complaining about the results.

I'm sorry that the American public school system is so worked-up about
    • Gee, reminds me of Sheridan's apology to the Centauri :-)

"I apologize. I'm sorry. I'm sorry we had to defend ourselves against an unwarranted attack. I'm sorry that your crew was stupid enough to fire on a station filled with a quarter million civilians including your own people. And I'm sorry I waited as long as I did before I blew them all straight to hell. As with everything else it's... the thought that counts."
    • So who do I vote for to get stupid Europeans to go home (back to Europe) and stop messing up the New World? I realize I'm 400 years too late with this- but stupid Europeans like Bush and Kerry are obviously NOT the answer.

If you're thinking about "Europeans" to include people whose ancestors came to the New World several generations ago, you don't, any more than one can do anything about the American businessmen who managed to finagle Hawaii into state-hood.

Bush and Kerry may be decended from Europeans, but I think it's safe to sa

Yeah- rather sad isn't it? If you could get them to actually *become* American, even after several generations, it might even be worth putting up with the concrete, pollution, and idiotic corporations. But I've seen no evidence so far that Whites are learning to care
          • If you could get them to actually *become* American, even after several generations,

How, then, does one "become" American? I was born here (Indiana) and raised here (mostly in Maine). Both sides of my family have been here for generations...

But I've seen no evidence so far that Whites are learning to care for the land or thier neighbors.

This is the danger of generalizations. I do care for my environment. I believe that we (the human race) were given a sacred charge to take care of the land. The p
            • This is the danger of generalizations. I do care for my environment. I believe that we (the human race) were given a sacred charge to take care of the land. The problem as I see it is that there are way too many that interpret this to mean that they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, until the land is of no use to anyone. Those people are dreadfully wrong.

My neighbors seem to have an entirely different interpretation of caring for the land than I do, for instance. I'm not saying that they don

  • To most of the people on that Aplogies site, I have to say the same thing I say to my ultra-leftist friends:

"If you want Europe, you know where to find it."
    • And where do I go to regain the orignal forms of American government- the family and the tribe? Certainly NOT to the current crop of Democrats and Republicans- who just want to continue European culture here instead of returning to an American point of view.
      • I don't know where you go. Good luck, though.

I've been of the opinion that the United States is entirely too large to govern effectively as a democracy for some time, and that's why we've been trending towards a sort of fascism since the Civil War.

I'd like to see the country split into three, maybe four sections, myself.
        • I wouldn't mind seeing the country split into 50 sections- and all it would take is one constitutional ammendment removing the ability of the federal government to regulate interstate commerce.
