Journal Trolling4Dollars's Journal: Keeping the classics alive 4

The Marx Brothers were geniuses. Even today, their humor is exquisite. Take this exchange between Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont from The Coconuts (1929):

Groucho: Now you've gotten it out of me. I love you.
Mrs Potter: I don't think you'd love me if I were poor.
Groucho: I might, but I'd keep my mouth shut.

Such timeless humor. Do yourself a favor and rent a Marx Brothers video this weekend.

I grew up with this on Late Night Television - before this was screwed by Regan's de-regulation, and the advent of the Infomercial.

"Now go, and never darken my towels again!"

  • ...showed the Marx brothers, with Karl Marx among them, saying "Why, yes, I'm a Marxist!"

The delicious part is that it can be understood both ways -- as a dig at Marxism, but also nudging those rabidly against it.

    Cheers,

    Ethelred
