Journal heliocentric's Journal: Iron Chef: BOTM, my dream 20

For those of you who don't know the Iron Chef: Battle of the Masters series is coming soon to FoodTV (starting April 23). Well, the thing is there appear to be three "challengers" (I can't exactly say "Americans" since Puck at least didn't start that way) going against two Iron Chefs. That seems to be one extra "challenger." The commercials also tout a "surprise twist" of some sorts.

Could this mean my dream is finally coming true???

I can see it now. The chairman introduces the main ingredient; he pulls back the cover and up rises... BOBBY FLAY!

I can't decide if he should be presented alive to the chefs and let them tear into him during battle, or if Flay should be properly butchered before the match with equal body portions divided up for the chefs. Live would certainly be interesting, but if he isn't sedated then that means he could stand on someone's cutting board again. We can't have that. But, if he's served sedated, then why bother? Thus, I've mostly settled on butchered but perhaps leave his head intact.

Now, if we can cut up Emeril Legasse to make a true "Essence of Emeril" we can complete the ultimate pruning of FoodTV self loving idiots.

Iron Chef: BOTM, my dream

  • Self-loving chefs?

Which channel is that on, and do they include their recipe for "special sauce"?

    ....Bethanie....
    • Amen. He's such an asshole. And I thought that before the jumping-up-on-the-counter incident(s).

Maybe there's another Iron Chef that they're not telling us about -- I've seen the commercials, but not paid much attention to them. I like Iron Chef, but I don't know that any 'dream team' short of AB, Emeril, and Jamie Oliver would make me watch. :P

      • I'd just take Emiril out of that trio. Jamie Oliver and Alton Brown would be my dream team.

Alton's problem, though, is that he's not a "fast" chef. All the really good stuff he makes has steps like "let this rest for two hours" or "marinate for 4-6 hours." Not good for a one hour time limit contest.

But what is Alton really could be on Iron Chef [goodeatsfanpage.com]...?
        • Emeril's there to distract the Iron Chefs. "Look at this! BAM!"... heehee.

Actually, if you want fast (and chocolate), look at Jacques Torres. Damn, that man can do anything with chocolate.

Of course, that would work well only for the dessert bits, or if the theme was 'chocolate'... but still. He's damn fun to watch. :)
  • I've seen it mentioned on Slashdot a few times, but what is the Iron Chef?
    • the iron chef team is a set of experts. A challenger goes up against them- they get an ingredient/theme, and have to come up with a number of dishes in a very short time involving it. Then they feed it to a judging panel, who complain that there isn't enough of the theme ingredient/ is too much/ doesn't taste right/ is excellent but not what they were expecting/ etc. The panel usually consists of a celebrity, a cooking expert, and some other people they seem to pull at random from the social pages. And the
    • Let me add to what Solemn Dragon said: they use theme ingredients. These theme ingredients run the gamut of oriental delicacies. Rat testicles, dog ova, platypus eggs, hedgehog spines, etc. This is largely the reason I gave up on the show.
  • Its Sakai&Morimoto vs Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, and Mario Batali.

And there will be a tagteam match.

    More info here [foodnetwork.com].

Two things need to happen for the 'americans' to win.
1.) They need americans on the tasting panel. They make meals for the american and european palatte, not the asian.
2.) They need to practice with the time limit. Its killed many-a-great chefs to prepare in under an hour, and the iron chefs are very experienced working within the time limits.

Yes, the TiVo is already set to reco
  • LMAO that would be the greatest Iron Chef ever, I always thought that Bobby Flay was an overrated schmuck, but when he was whining in his first battle against Morimoto, what a tool. And I loved the disgust that Morimoto had when Flay STOOD on the cutting board to grandstand....maybe Chairman Kaga will freshly behead Flay after reveling him

Morimotos' resturant is still in Philly right?

    • Morimotos' resturant is still in Philly right?

Yuppers, and some friends of mine have gone several times, but I haven't had the liquid assests to go.
  • I figured you may be interested in this Reading Eagle article regarding your friend. Email would have probably been better for this, but I don't have your address.

I'll throw the text in here since Reading Eagle articles only last a day online.
