Journal drinkypoo's Journal: An open letter to Avira 5

I am getting tired of your popups, and the fact that your facebook app does not support https makes me laugh at your notion of security. I dub thee douchewaffle. Time to look for another free antivirus. Will not recommend Avira for corporate use evar.

An open letter to Avira

  • When AVG quite supporting 98 SE I switched from their free version to Avast!'s free version (eventually move "up" to XP), and so far, so good.

    • Amusingly I went to Avira because Avast turned their interface into something that looked more like a bad Winamp2 skin. But I will give Avast a try again and see if they unfucked it.

It pushes automatic updates almost every day, so I almost never see the interface.

Maybe I should be more "proactive", or maybe you visit more dangerous sites than do I, but it seems to do the job automagically.

  • Open source, free, all that good stuff. And it's probably as effective as the other AV detectors out there.

But your best bet at defense is surfing responsibly. Aggressively run NoScript in your browser, skip the free porn sites, delete email attachments, and don't download software from strangers.
