Journal roman_mir's Journal: Terrible 23

Hmmm. Now the moderation brought my karma all the way down to 'Terrible'. I didn't know there was a level called 'Terrible' before. I wonder what's below 'Terrible', is it 'Fuck You' or something?

It's obvious that there is a moderator around with unlimited points that has a problem with my comments, whatever my comments are at this point. An AC suggested that I don't bother commenting here, so that must be the guy (could it be a girl? I wonder).

So what's the big offense here? Obviously it's having an opinion that doesn't jive well with that moderator. I don't know if it's fear that others might agree with the opinion or is it just legitimate hatred of some sort the roots of which I can't even identify?

What can I say, I'll keep commenting but I can't comment under my name, the account doesn't allow me to leave more than 2 comments per 24 hours now, and if they keep moderating down, it's likely that the account will be shut down completely, so it's going to be impossible to comment under the account, so I'll be an AC. Still leaving comments, but now without history, which is quite lengthy for me here, over 10 years now.

Does this make any sense? I don't know.

  • Someone said that Slashdot is a giant echo chamber. The majority shuts up the minority by down-modding. I believe the moderator guidelines [slashdot.org] say you shouldn't down-mod an opposing point of view (quote):

Concentrate more on promoting than on demoting. The real goal here is to find the juicy good stuff and let others read it. Do not promote personal agendas. Do not let your opinions factor in. Try to be impartial about this. Simply disagreeing with a comment is not a valid reason to mark it down. Likewise, agree

  • i have looked at your old comments and it is obvious someone has inappropriately modded you down.

i have some mod points sometimes, i can try to help if i can find a story that i havent posted a comment on, where i can mod you up.

    • Thanks, but I think it would be pretty much a waste of your moderation points, this has been going on for a few weeks now, I get routinely moderated down on every single comment in a row in a minute, normally -10, to -20 moderation points at one time. So I think it's one of the 'super' moderators here with unlimited points. I don't think anybody can beat that.

  • Seems like one ought to be able to somehow contact this site's admins and say look, been here over 10 years as a contributor in good standing with excellent karma, until recently when I've been getting the shit modbombed outta me, and now your system is restricting me, is there something that can be done.

I hope you get more liberal posting rights back, as I recall seeing you around, and while sometimes I strongly disagree (like on the merger), I think what I've seen has always been intelligent at least. Mor

    • Yeah, they normally moderate all of my comments in a row within a minute time span, this doesn't bother me that they moderate me down, I can understand somebody hates me or something, the only problem is that it prevents from posting and will eventually prevent me from posting either under my name or completely, because without being able to post under my own nick name, I can't have history. Does it matter that I can't use my comments in history? Well yes, to me it does. So if I can't use it here that way

  • or one of the other moderators; make sure to include ID's from your comments that were improperly modded down. Most likely someone will see the trend, reverse the mods, find out who modded you down, and revoke moderator access from them.
  • Hey Roman,

I rarely agree with any of your opinions on things, and I have noticed that, from time to time, you get some of your information wrong, or, at the very least, it is incomplete. However, what you are experiencing is commonly called "mod-bombing" or "karma trolling." It happened to me awhile back for shit only knows what.

Anyways, I made a note of it in my signature for about three months (until it stopped). I just changed my signature to something like, "Karma-trolled since _____," where the _
  • ...that you post comments that are flat-out wrong, link to your own posts instead of independent sources and are guilty of a variety of logical and rhetorical fallacies.
No. It has to be a single moderator with unlimited Karma, instead of many moderators who all think that you contribute nothing of value to the discussion.

For the record - I've actually modded you down more than once. Not today though. Ran out of modpoints before I reached your latest rant.

    • Oh, I don't doubt that you moderate my posts down, but it can't be anybody with just normal moderation points, because that is normally spaced around with other moderations. No, what I am talking about is blanket moderation that has been going on with all my posts for weeks. Just every single post, regardless what it is, one after the other. To do that, you have to open my comments page and then go from one comment to another, and I notice sometimes how it's done - quickly.

It's done very quickly, in a matte

      • Yes... yes, of course I am that one guy with the unlimited mod points! You found me out. Con-gra-tu-la-tions! I mean, thanks to me, every last one of your last 20 posts is sitting at -1!

Wait.... wait a minute! Only 3 are at -1! 2 are actually above 2! And one's even at 3, Insightful! I must fix that! But, alas, I can't anymore, as my infinite mod points vanished the instant you discovered my secret identity.

You might want to look into treatment for paranoia. That'll kill you early. Oh, and you can think me

        • I didn't say you were that guy, so relax, no need to jump in excitement. I know you would have been that guy had you those kinds of moderation points, because you believe that me using my old comments for reference is worthless, when in fact I am showing that we have already had these very discussions, and that all things are related. In the USPS story I left a comment by the way, where I linked to an old discussion on /., where I specifically stated that USPS was broke. I had all sorts of hate thrown at m

          • So what you're saying is that you're relying on hand-outs from moderators to survive in the jungle that is slashdot? You're funny. Oh, and a weasel. Of course you didn't say I was that guy. You merely asked a question. So are you the guy who raped and murdered a girl in 1990?

            • I didn't even imply that you were that guy, you need to relax for sure. Nobody with a UID over 50,000 is a super-moderator. So you see, by definition you cannot have infinite amounts of moderation.

My point in asking that was to get you to say something of the same kind, like: "I would always moderate all of your comments down, blah blah," whatever.

Did I rape and murder a girl in 1990? No. See? That was easy.

Hear that Roman? The Inquisition had found you guilty of logical *and* rhetorical fallacies. Pretty damning stuff.

Ran out of modpoints before I reached your latest rant.

This is why Slashdot has been going down the tubes lately. Buddy, he's got a right to rant. That's why the comments are there. If you think he's ranting, reply and prove him wrong. Don't shut him up.

      • Buddy, he's got a right to rant.

Aside from the fact that you're conflating right and ability - of course he does. And others have the right to identify the rant as a complete waste of time. Pretty straightforward stuff. He's just butthurt that on average, he's sitting at 1, when his inspiring and enlightening posts should serve as a guiding light to the world.
