It actually is corporate welfare for the insurance sector, guaranteeing them profits and alrger market shares. Obama has demonstrated once again that given the choice, he'll throw Main Street under a passing bus. It's no different than the "trickle-down economics" of Reagan.

History is repeating itself. A generation ago, there was an unpopular war, a democratic president (Johnson), and despite him introducing Medicare, Medicaid, and civil rights legislation, he knew that if he ran for a second term, he'd lose.
You forgot food stamps and AFDC, the entitlement that caused generational poverty (replaced with TANF in 1996). But the Vietnam War was mostly what made Johnson so unpopular, as well as folks like my mom: "I can't stand to hear him talk."
