The Zombie Economy

  • The trillion-dollar federal health plan on which the US House of Representatives voted March 21 will effectively nationalize a sector comprising 14% of the US economy

It actually is corporate welfare for the insurance sector, guaranteeing them profits and alrger market shares. Obama has demonstrated once again that given the choice, he'll throw Main Street under a passing bus. It's no different than the "trickle-down economics" of Reagan.

    • For once I agree with Tom. Might be different had there been a true "public option", but there isn't.

      • Tell me about it! I see all this "they're nationalizing health care!" when the real issue is "If you can't afford health care, we're going to sic the IRS after you!"

History is repeating itself. A generation ago, there was an unpopular war, a democratic president (Johnson), and despite him introducing Medicare, Medicaid, and civil rights legislation, he knew that if he ran for a second term, he'd lose.

You forgot food stamps and AFDC, the entitlement that caused generational poverty (replaced with TANF in 1996). But the Vietnam War was mostly what made Johnson so unpopular, as well as folks like my mom: "I can't stand to hear him talk."

Hehe, yeah, but no. Not really. Hillary is more left wing than the O-man. I voted for her in the primaries.

The owning class has bought and paid for the entire political process. They give us a Magician's choice. [wikipedia.org] Meaning, it only looks like we're choosing.
