Gee, I thought that our values as a nation were to defend ourselves and protect our women and children. One day the politicians say that torture reveals salient information, the next that it is useless. Who knows? But if there is even a chance that it is useful then we have an obligation to protect our country.
What nonsense. That argument could be used to justify using astrologists, because "there might be a chance." Or a random-number generator or a Ouija board. Or parachuting kittens into their territories "because it might work by giving them the warm fuzzies towards us."
That sort of thinking gets people mortgaging their homes to buy lottery tickets because "there might be a chance."

This is the sort of thinking that will lead to the ultimate police state:
The report says that at least 119 detainees were tortured and 26 were held “wrongfully.” But there is no such thing as wrongfully. If there was even a smidgeon of a chance that the detainees were guilty then they were held rightfull

You can quote numbers until doomsday. The last election results showed in big bold numbers that 98% of the people who vote don't give a damn. The iron fist has always been upon us, the softness of the velvet being proportional to the resistance, and even more so to the level of advocacy. And with torture anyone who does not say no under any circumstances is an advocate, and they only welcome it upon themselves. Right or wrong, people follow the example, not the word.
