That's a very interesting stance. Especially considering that visitors to the US have to fill out that weird sheet which has the following question:

"Do you intend to do anything illegal or immoral while in the US?"

It's a yes/no question, which is rather annoying. While people in New York might find it immoral for me to use the services of a prostitute in Nevada, it's not illegal. So ... which one do I cross off?

Flaws In a BSA Software Piracy Report? 288

Ian Lamont writes "The Business Software Alliance has just released its state piracy study (full PDF also available). The BSA says that one in five pieces of software in use in the United States is unlicensed, and notes that piracy rates are highest in Ohio (27%). However, as noted by the Industry Standard, there are problems with the state study, and the way the BSA is presenting the data: the study only includes eight states, and it is making some questionable connections, including the claim that lost state and local tax revenue from piracy would have been enough to 'hire nearly 25,000 experienced police officers.'"

So, apparently we need a complicated system of grid feeding substations (electric cars, in this article) to help keep the grid working. Here's another idea - the utilities could do THEIR job a little better, and this vast infrastructure change will be irrelevant. How do they handle solar, wind and similar at the moment? Another issue is that overall power quality will degrade with too many cheap substations feeding energy with uncontrollable amounts of reactive power into the grid. Sure this can be handled, but only at considerable cost to the installation you need in your home. That is one the reasons utilities would rather keep your excess wind, solar, hydro or other such energy sources off their precious grid, and will settle for your consumption to be really low. Handling that situation would require substantial investments on the side of the utilities - not exactly what they are known to love.

New Review Compares MythTV to Vista MCE 234

Parkus writes "There's a nice review on AVS forum of MythTV (Ubuntu) and Windows Vista MCE. The author tried both back to back and explains the pluses and minuses of each system after using them for a month. Helpful if you're thinking about setting up your own home theater rig."

Well, actually there's a tool on my driver cdrom for my new K7S5a motherboard that allows me to flash my BIOS directly from Windoze *Looks quickly through my manual* ..."WinFlash Utility" ...And the MoBo can boot from almost all types of USB connected media - Actually, when I have my SmartMedia/CompactFlash reader plugged in, I can see it as an option en the boot menu. So in case i in some weird situation, I could plug in a USB floppy drive - Has anybody got any ideas as to what the casings "floppy-hole" could be used for? ...Actually, I do believe that with the current technological state and diversity (sp?)of storage media, I wouldnt mind the floppy being dead.
