A fine paid by the business will not change behaviour of managers -- who just profited (got bigger bonuses) from this. The decision makers need life changing fines or prison time. Managers in other companies will see this, decide that they do not want the same and so behave.

Unless you are stupid or trying to curry favour with the Orange Idiot ?
In a data center the repair tech needs to walk past a few racks to replace what is broken. With this setup s/he will need to drive somewhere, fix whatever, drive back - assuming that the remote diagnostics were correct and that they brought the right parts first time. Then there is access: "we are having a kids' party today, beware the supersoakers."
Nobody is saying that AI should not be on Ubuntu - they just want the ability to easily not have it. Ie have the choice - which is what Linux systems are famous for.

What's your plan? Make them turn it all over to a financial advisor? I'm not clear how that would completely eliminate the issue.
In England senior members of the government must put their stocks into a Blind Trust. While not perfect this goes a long way to avoiding insider trading.
who would have ever thought that such a thing would happen ?
Put valuable data somewhere and of course the crooks will try to steal it, and they did. This is the sort of information needed to blag their way into bank & corporate accounts, reset email passwords, access tax records and no end of similar things. This will cause mayhem for the 19 million French men & women.
May this be a warning to those planning similar systems in other countries: either do not do it (fat chance of that) or invest in proper security that is frequently pen-tested.
It will need to be replaced, who pays: Amazon or the supplier/manufacturer ?
One good reason why computers can do more work than people is that they never have to stop and answer the phone.
