It's not that China is a big bad empire, it's that Xi is an emperor who's unable to placate his people with promises of a better tomorrow due to China's economy having caught up enough that the rubber band has gone slack and dictatorships being inherently incompatible with the rule of law which a strong economy requires, so his only hope for survival is to placate them with promises of glory which makes a confrontation with China and West pretty much inevitable, and Xi knows that. It's the same deal as with Russia, US is simply being wiser than EU was.

Basically, what's business to Apple is a weapon to China, and China is a fundamentally hostile nation to anyone who doesn't think Xi would make a great world leader, which he wouldn't judging by everything I know about life in China and also because he's a genocidal tyrant. That you have managed to earn a bad reputation through your own actions does not reflect badly on Slashdot or CowboyNeal, it reflects badly on you. What they call "linear TV" I've heard called "broadcast TV". A certain show is on at a certain time and unless you have a device that records it, if you miss it you miss it. That's the way it was when I was bought up. My country no longer has a VHF terrestrial TV broadcast. The only broadcast platforms we have are by Satellite. I haven't watched "broadcast TV" since I ditched Sky about 6 years ago.

I don't like running, I had my ACL reconstructed a couple of years ago and running hard worries me. I do love cycling though so that's my go to for cardio. Whether mountain biking or using the awesome FulGaz app on an indoor trainer I can't get enough of it. I spend my day developing software and wondering where my next ride will be.

I have a single Sonos speaker and it works ok in that the sound quality is good enough for me. I only use Deezer which suits my needs. My gripe is that the iOS app connectivity to the speaker is terrible. From an Android tablet it's fine. I'm fed up with the wifi dropping and songs just stopping or skipping to the next song. No other device in that part of the house has connectivity issues. They're also very expensive for what they are. $369 for the small "Sonos One"? No thanks.

Where I live it costs about $14 to see the movie in a theatre and $40 for the "pass" to watch it on Disney+.

30,000 cases *per day*!! What the hell are they doing up there in dystopia land?. If we have a single new case in the community it's all over the news and cities go into lock down. And because of this we've enjoyed very few restrictions on our lives since the pandemic started. I love living in New Zealand.
